I have yet to meet a SINGLE person in eastern Idaho that is a democrat. Them Dems are universally hated and ridiculed here.
You better do some more research pal. Boise voted in a Democrat last year for Mayor, and she intends to make Boise like Portland and Seattle. She hired a police chief from Portland OR.
Sure, the rest of the State remains conservative, the big cities and large liberal population can change the state with their liberal votes. There are also a few liberal towns in northern Idaho.

Hahaha!
You obviously don't watch the local news or read the Statesman.....
There's already a active campaign to remove her.
She is too far left even for the residents of Boise.
But what do I know. I just voted for the current election here. AFTER I DID ALL MY RESEARCH.
Hahaha. Nice try noob.

This statement needs context. First, mayoral elections are apolitical - you don't see a dem v repub on the ballot. That being said, both the previous mayor and the current one are historical democrats.

The former mayor, Dave Bieter, had a 16 year run and began to develop habits of a monarch. It was time for him to go. So technically, we replaced a dem with another dem.

We've had police chiefs from liberal cities before, including Ann Arbor Mich.

It would behoove you and others who have joined our state to understand that the democrats in idaho are generally NOT like the ones you left in cali.

Likewise, longtime idaho residents need to understand that the current wave of cali expats is probably more conservative than the average idaho resident.

This is in stark contrast to the 1970's when a real tidal wave of liberals invaded idaho and oregon.

Hey, Mickey D., just noticed your location. What a great part of Idaho! Salmon was home to Elmer Keith (sixgunner legend and innovator) and Walt Blackadar (pioneering kayaker).

Your not far from one of the only cobalt mines in the US (blackbird mine near Cobalt).

If you have not done so, a trip down the main salmon is an amazing journey.

Welcome to our state!

Your current Boise Mayor isnt from Idaho, nor California nor Texas. You have someone from Massachusetts. Be very careful of "Democrats" who come from the East Coast. Your current mayor is a 3rd Wave feminist progressive from the East Coast is much different than any Liberal you saw before. In fact you may see former Liberal Democrats vote against her agenda. The same is true for Reno Mayor.

Thanks. Moved to the Salmon area 5.5 years ago. As you know it’s a great area for outdoor recreation, hunting and fishing.
Yes, I knew about Elmer Keith residing here quite some time ago. Been a fan for years.
I’m pretty much caught up on the history of the areas mining and timber industry. Fascinating to ride ATVs and SxS into those areas.
Love Idaho.

Actually, Mayor Mclean has been a boise resident for at least 20 years. Got her MPA from Boise State University in 2001. She was a city council member since 2011.

I voted for her over the previous mayor because she had a well-reasoned stance on the F-35 base issue.

She does seem to have veered left somewhat after being elected mayor. We'll see if we need to hit the reset key in a few years.

Prices are rising rapidly in Coeur d'Afornia as well...

I'm sure glad I made my move two years ago.

We have been weighing pros and cons between Idaho, Reno/Sparks and a very finite area in Ut where I have several friends.

Hoping some of the homeowners in Idaho can educate me on property taxes in the state or your county. If it helps, we are considering the Treasure Valley and possibly near Lake Lowell in Nampa ( I bass fish). When looking at some of the taxes on homes it seems really high and others about what I figured. From what I understand, the county assessor reassesses every five years, but if they find out you have done improvements (ie granite counters in the bathroom or kitchen) they will raise the tax along with the latest MLS listings. Read a thread on citi-data about a resident that is paying much more than his neighbors with nicer and larger homes. The assessor wanted the guy to rat out his neighbors that have improved their homes so they could get dinged otherwise he would be subsidizing their taxes. Seemed odd to the poster, but I thought I'd see what CGer's might have experienced over the last few years with the rapidly increasing values.

Ada County is .75 and Canyon County is .94. We are looking for a second rental property right now and anything under 300k has multiple offers and pending after one day. We bought a home in Star for retirement, but our second rental area has yet to be determined.

Gotta say I'm NOT pleased at the housing prices as well as the population boom. Way too many people are moving here but I guess it couldn't stay a secret forever.
Dirtbag drives are all over, quite a few in our area have California plates. I enjoy having one or more follow me on a tractor pulling a baler or a trailer full of hay. Tailgating and/or horn blowing causes me to downshift a gear or two.

Fairview and Eagle is by far the busiest intersection in the state, and has been for more than a few years. I avoid whenever possible. County prefix on your plate is not necessarily where you live, it's more the county where you registered the vehicle. Since I'm in Canyon west of Kuna, it's faster for me to do registration in Meridian, v. driving to Caldwell. My truck shows 1A plate.

In rural area, Canyon is very flexible with property taxes. They won't find "improvements" unless you or your contractor need to pull a permit. In the winter of 2018, we did a very complete remodel of our place. Subs were not on the internet looking for work...all were the best and had constant business and referrals. I had the plumber pull a permit for a new water heater, and the a/c guy for a new outside unit. Taxes were not affected. If you'd like a great contractor, shoot me a pm.

FYI, not all of us who are coming mind following a Tractor

Some of us come seeking what we lost and remember as good. We are ready and willing to assimilate and adapt to get back to that place...

Might just take awhile to get our plates switched over...

First time you go just do the raft rental thing at Barber park. They have shuttle busses to take you back up after you get to ann morrison take out. After that you’ll have it figured out and can do what we do and invest in a nice kayak or raft and take two cars, park one at morrison then head up to barber to put in. It only costs 7 bucks to park at barber. Great way to spend a couple hours on a hot summer day. PM me if you have any questions.

Cool, thanks for the tips. We were up there at the beginning of the month and read about it, but they said they weren't renting from Barber because of the COVID, and I was curious about how they get you back up to where you started.

They’re renting rafts no problem. Only thing they aren’t providing is the free air service like they usually do for folks that bring their own. Some numb nuts thought it too potentially covid spready for there to be the community air chucks that lay out in the 18 hours of UV sunlight we get in the summer.
