Default Air force reserve

Good day calgunners,

I am a prior E in active and current in the reserve, since my EAOS come near, i have a thought to go to different branch such as AF reserve. any of you guys in the AF reserve and call tell me about how is it? Also, I have some rating, however, I want to be an O, but they(recruiters) told me i have to withdraw all my rating. I would like to know If I make it thru O and work through retirement, can I able to get the the same reason for rating?

What the hell are you talking about?

I had to look up EAOS and figure out you are Navy. I'm Army Reserve, but in my world EAOS = ETS (expiration of term of service).

I have a prior active Navy E5 in my unit, and ever since he got to my unit he's been trying to get back to Navy.

I've been thinking of changing services as well to USAF or USN, and a peer USAR Military Intel Officer is asking me about coming over to Logistics, and I'm thinking I probably have a MUCH better chance of going back to Intel in the USAR than I do trying to jump to USAF/USN as an O3 (currently O2).

Conclusion...........

We are all screwed.

I would say (if young enough) a prior service enlisted E7 or lower with a degree has pretty good chance of picking up an Army Reserve Commission and making it to O5, and even better would be in a position to retire at a lower rank depending on their prior service time.

I'm not Air Force but...

It doesn't really matter whether you waive your VA benefits or not (you can't waive your "rating"). When you go to your physical you have to disclose if you've ever been rated or received disability payments/benefits.

Speaking from experience, I was medically DQ'd by BUPERS for my VA disabilities after I was selected by a DCO board. Little while later, I was selected by USAR DCO and passed medical just fine. My two commissioning physicals were identical. Point being, the only one who may know the answer to your question is the command surgeon's office and/or HQ (BUPERS, HRC, etc).

In my experience, reserve or direct officer accessions are often handled by a specialized group. Not the average recruiter. Might take some digging to find the right person who has direct knowledge of the program you're looking for.

I retired from USAR as an O-3. At the end of the day, I think I would've had more "fun" if I'd stayed enlisted instead of crossing over to the dark-side.

When I joined the AF reserve in 2016 they did not want anybody that was rated by the VA. RE-1A's only aswell.
