Has anyone been out to the spot with the big tree this year? I was wondering how the “dip” is coming off the road. Can a car make it without having the bumper torn off? I went out there in a Corolla once a few years ago and made it okay, but I know rain and use change that.

It will close May 1st. It's pretty much automatic now, decided by unknown bureaucrats. It can close earlier, but never later. I once heard Cal Fire decides based on soil moisture, but even that varies by location and altitude.

Went to broke back mountain today. It was gorgeous but the road in was wet. On the way out we got stuck in my 4wd F150 for a brief time. My advice to people is either wait a bit longer for things to dry out or go prepared for a small patch of rough terrain. Definitely 4wd right now

Further east is still allowed, right? Theres another, closer spot, that I like to go, but sounds like it's closed. Looks like I'm going to have to go further east now...

Pretty sure no one will bother you at Smuggers Gulch no matter the time of year. But I haven?t been there in years, I had 4wd vehicle because there is a lot of sand before you get unto the old hiway. That?s pretty damn far, even from east San Diego county.
