Members are allowed to shoot 22LR or airguns on the weekend and some weekday nights with prior approval. Until it's open to the public on the weekday nights, Members can't shoot centerfire. Law Enforcement do train and hold CCW classes/qualifications weekends and weekday nights.

Has the covered range replaced the outdoor range?

Is there just one range now? Or separate ranges for pistol and rifles?

I contacted the range, it seems the sheriff department owns the facilities. I emailed the San Mateo sheriff department. The reopening is taking too long!

This is ridiculous, they have to be dragging their feet on purpose at this point. I could understand the excuse when everything was shut down and remote but the San Mateo County has been up and running for over a year now.

It is run by San Mateo sheriff department. Feel free to drop them a note. That’s what I did. It is a shame that this facility is funded by tax dollars but continue to be unavailable to public.

Thats pretty much the case for the majority of PD/SD ranges.

In the Phase 2 renovations to the outdoor range (2019-2020), they gutted and removed the old shooting stalls/benches and RSO booth. The backstop and target hangers, and bullet trap is now covered. The rest of the 100yrd range has an open roof with plywood and steel plates to prevent to prevent accidental discharges and ricochets from hitting planes on the approach into SFO.

The shooting stalls are no longer covered by a roof and open to the elements unfortunately. The good news is that the mail slots/glory holes are completely gone! Yay.

Only the 100yrd rifle range is open to the public or Club members to shoot. Since the 2016-2018 Phase 1 renovations of the range, which was paid for by a private donation (hence the name change), the pistol range was moved into an indoor building and is only available for use by the Sheriffs.

We don't know. Still no word from the County and Sheriff. The Club's continuing to make improvements and hold monthly matches in the mean time. We had a .22 and airgun match last weekend.

Nearly end of the year, any update? Or can we just add this to the list of ranges permanently closed in the bay?

San Mateo County (owner of the range) is implementing the appointment and payment system, when it's ready, the range will open. Until then, no one knows the exact date.

My assumption has been all along that the SMSO will allow some clubs to use the range for competitions and maybe instructional purposes so they can say there's community access and the general public will be SOL.

If they wanted to close it to public they would just close it to public and call it a day. This is not the case here.

It's going to be open eventually. It's already open for .22LR matches. But have you seen some fast and effective job done by the government around here? Neither am I.

So it's 2023. What do we think, open to the public in the year 2100?

While the park is without electrical power--don't ask me why I know--I hear the pitter-patter of pistols pumping powder-powered pellets down range.

Anyone know if they are not affected or are they running a generator?

I hear the Sherif's indoor range being used so they must have their own generator probably. Us Club members have been able to shoot.22 on the weekends during daylight but we have no power to turn the targets for competitions.

In the meantime we're getting new RSO training in preparation for opening up when as the electrical systems get restored.

Bummer, first range I ever went to way back when, and closest to my current house, used to be great for rifle...
