Default remington 157 primers

Does anyone use these? I just got 600 in a deal.

Shotgun primers replaced by 209's about 30 years ago. A little bigger than 209's so you either need a strong press or a drill to slightly open the hole up like using euro primers in domestic hulls.

I started loading in 1967. I remember different size primers.

No problem with different sized primers so long as you keep them separate.

Well...I've been told you can use the proper diameter plastic straw and shim them to fit a 209 socket.

I'm told you can use them in inline 209 muzzle loaders.

Maybe if I was really out and couldn't get the 209's. Otherwise, nyet.

The Remington 57 primers mic out at about .230" and the 209's & 97's at about .245".

I remember using the Remington 57's for the old Remington SP fiber base hulls.

So a prepper or survivalist could buy them cheap and wrap a layer of tinfoil around them and load for single use (LOL) Or use in muzzleloader with 209 ignition system.

Or, you use the properly size, convenience store straw and sleeve the 57 primer and use it as a 209.
