Default Need a second option - Ruger KSP-321X vs KSP-321X-NVK

Hey there, I have a customer who wants me to ask for a second opinion on whether or not the KSP-321X-NVK (Wiley Clapp) can be transferred to him. The KSP-321X is on roster, so the customer says that the KSP-321X-NVK also should be because it has night sights and the roster explicitly says "All handguns listed are approved with or without night sights."

So here we go.

The on-Roster model has all rubber grips, no rear sight, a pinned front sight and the "rear sight" is a groove cut in the top strap. The Wiley Clapp has inlaid grips, and target front and rear sights which are dovetail mounted and can be drifted with a punch.

See attached photos and give me your opinion please.

There are more differences. Look at the cylinders, the Clapp is tapered for easier holstering. Look closely at the lines of the flutes which reveals this taper when viewed in only 2D. The flutes start to close back in towards the muzzle, whereas the standard cylinder flute has straight lines going forward

I also think they have an action job. Anyhow, the difference in the frame alone (for the dovetail) would probably make it a roster-buster, but that cylinder probably seals the deal.

As always though - just my IMO, YMMV, IANAL, DOJSUX

The grips alone nullify it.

Remember there was a version of Springfield 1911 where SA includes the new g19 grips in the box. That was because the diff grips dropped the roster status so you get the original as tested plus the current ones.

^^^ But the grips would be an easy change before DROS, if that was the only problem.

Is it large enough to Single action it? I didn’t look it up. Make it single action

Edit: just checked. Barrel is too short to qualify

There is a 3" Clapp model though that would qualify. That is the way I would go if it were me buying - same gun with an extra 3/4" of barrel, single action exemption

Isn't that "manufacturing"?

Meanwhile, the customer has asked me to ship the firearm to another FFL "who has a little more hands-on experience and knowledge of that particular model."

Its not, you're just removing a part or disabling a function. Good luck to the guy that knows how to get a TALO gun thats not on the roster through DROS.
