Hello everyone,

I'm from Sacramento and have been interested in practicing my second amendment as of lately. I joined calguns to read up on more info and go into the purchase of my first firearm soon.

Greetings! My name is Gabe and I live in Oakland, CA. I'm a freelance writer (mostly motorcycle journalism so far, but am moving into other areas) and am looking into purchasing a 22 LR rifle for fun and emergency preparedness.

I'm a US Marine (active duty 88-92) and ARNG vet, so I'm very familiar with firearms, thanks very much. I'm looking for a place to meet other shooters and am looking forward to making new friends and learning new things.

Been interested in firearms for some time now, a member of NRA for the past 2-years. However, NEVER had fired or handled a gun BEFORE. *LOL*

Regardless, a few weeks back, took a Basic Handgun course. The course uses a 38 revolver; but because of what I read in several media, requested the instructor for a 40 P229.

Hahaha... On the day of the course, some of the instructors were actually worried if I could handle the Sig. But by the day was over, they were actually amazed I did well. Shots were precise, and groups were tight in the 3-yd and 7-yd lines; though it TOOK me a long time to get my sight alignment/picture (*hands were shaking*).

Well, am serious about pursuing this - 1) for home defense (have a wife and 2 kids - 5 and 8) and, maybe, 2) a hobby.

Still don't have a gun, yet. Am studying for the FSC - am thinking of the Glock 22 or the Sig P229, albeit the latter is pricey at $1K...!?! (hence, also saving up for the gun and other accessories)

But, did order myself a Next Level SiRT pistol (modeled and weighted on the G17/G22) which arrived Monday. Been having fun doing dry fire drills at home. Yehey!

Looking forward to learning more about guns - use, laws, home defense, combat shooting (hobby), mechanical DIY, etc.

Thank you,
Welcome. Out of curiosity, why not get a gun chambered in 9mm or 22LR? Cheaper to shoot than a 40.

I would do a search in the Rimfire section for a thread that addresses your question or start a new one. A lot of choices, but a starting point would be the type of action you like: semi-auto, lever, bolt or pump. Then the amount you're willing to spend.

Typical suggestions:

Semi-auto: Ruger 10-22, Marlin model 60, Marlin 795, Marlin Papoose
Lever: Henry, Marlin 39A, Winchester 9422
Bolt: Marlin XT-22, Ruger American, CZ 452 (discontinued) or 455 (in production), Anschutz
Pump: Taurus (discontinued), Henry

Greetings Calguns,

Just a typical intro: Been lurking for some time, interested in joining the community blah blah blah...

I'm out of West Covina, and saw the thread on my city in to works of being a Shall Issue City so I definitely am going to stay on top of that.

Interesting fact is that I am a wholesaler of firearms parts and accessories. Can't disclose any more info on that because some of the people I work with are on here

Anyways, goal for me here is to get connected with the locals and see what we can do to get West Covina into an issuing city

Make sure you have lots of reading time.....

Welcome.

Make sure your guns are legal before moving here.
10 round mags, no threaded barrels....

Thank you!!!

Sorry for not replying any sooner - I seemingly didn't set my Notification Type...

Well, when I took the Basic Handgun course, the only pistols were 38 revolvers. I dunno - but had a personal preference for semi-automatics, and so (doesn't hurt to ask), asked the instructor if he had anything else... Luckily, he responded that he has a P229 in 40!

Tried it - and actually loved it! Hence, why not make it my first gun and learn from it..! (I'm definitely sure that it MAY not be my last)

PS: Actually, just got my FSC over the weekend, and already ordered the G22. Delivery will be on 5-May!

Hi James,

Welcome and thank you for your service. California has one of the strictest gun control laws that appear designed to ensnare law abiding gun owners.

FNG from Sack a Maters.
Not new to weaponry.
Ruger Speed 6 for years, MP Shield 9 for 6 months, Mossberg 12 for 4 or 5 years.
MAWG (Middle Aged White Guy, ok, 60 y/o) living in a Sac Hood for 10 years (Del Pasta Heights).
A couple other forum residences.
This forum is the broadest I've been to.
All kinda guns and beyond; survival, camping, CCW, dem females (dropping to a knee...shhh! ladies...shhhh!! My boss lady is a shooter...)
Good thing!

Hello!

Sorry I don't have an answer for you, I'm not much of a DIYer. You might do better in the semiautomatic handgun forum with that question. Hope to see more of your posts in the future.

I love seeing the calguns community grow

I'm not really sure what all that means except that I approve of ladies taking a knee for a man

Hi! Just registered today.

I'm moving my family out to Redding, CA this summer from VA. And while I'm dreading the move from my 2A freedom, my family and I are looking forward to however long we're in CA.

Living in VA for the past 16 years, I've grown quite a collection of firearms, many of which I am selling now because they are illegal in CA. I'm going to miss my silencers (which I'll be keeping in VA), my SBRs, my ARs and high capacity mags. I guess I'm bringing one AR15 with a bullet button or will convert it to a featureless rifle, a couple shotguns, boltguns and some handguns.

I'm glad to be apart of this forum and will glean as much info, especially before I move, so I can avoid all possible trouble.

Other than 2A, I love the outdoors, love things with 2 wheels (mountain and motorcycles) and will hopefully get into reloading.

btw, the one AR15 I will bring is my LWRC SPR with a 16" barrel. I'm glad to see LWRC is not on the list of banned manufacturers: http://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf

Well ,I'll have to start out by saying, this is all new to me. Yeah I know, I've been on an island regarding the education and loopholes on ca gun laws. I'm excited to be a part of this community, I am fairly new to guns themselves and never even fired a rifle. But this AR, OLL stuff has got me listening now. I overheard some Co-workers talking about AR15's and building there own, and now I'm very interested in educating myself about this stuff. I've got a lot of questions for sure and I hope you guys are willing to help me come terms. Thanks in advance
