The family and I were in Mojave, CA earlier this month which has turned into a real hell hole. We were pulling our RV through and needed to stop to feed our screaming baby, grab lunch and just try to collect ourselves and the kids to make the next stretch. It was hands down the. most. unsafe. I've ever felt, anywhere.

Needless to say we hustled out of there, but man, knowing that I was deprived of my ability to protect my family really got to me that day.

I completely agree... it's obviously not taken seriously nor would I have expected it to be given the past.

Have you tried to confirm they received your training when you submitted? Curious because I didn't see it on the spreadsheet.

Sent training docs in response to P2T email immediately. Waited a month then emailed asking them to confirm receipt which they responded to saying confirmed.

I called the CCW unit at the beginning of November to ask if they needed anything else from me as I hadn't heard anything from them and they said it was approved, just waiting final signatures (or something like that).

Not sure if my email asking for confirmation of receipt bumped me back in line or what...

I have to do my CCW renewal. I did my first class at Firing Line in Burbank which was great as it was three miles away from me. Now I do not see them on the list. Any recommendations in my area to do renewal class?

They're still being done there but changed names to Apex Firearms Training.

CRPA just filed suit against LASD for their issuance policy and timeframes (as well as other constitutional considerations). The suit also names La Verne PD.

I applied to the LASD for the CCW through their website online in June; and picked an interview appointment in January. According to their website: "The initial interview will be conducted telephonically on your scheduled date and time." Does that mean I will be contacted at the appointment time by phone for the interview?
Does anyone have experience with that?

I just got off the phone with the CCW Unit. My application was mailed 7/11/2022, entered into the system 11/7/2022. She declined to give me a time estimate for my interview call and they have been working on the October applications for the past 2 months. Hope this info is useful for helping to gauge progress.

I was just going to do the same thing to call and ask, but guess you got to it before my actions. Thanks for inputing where the boat is still.... 2 months to go through october's queue...

I was hoping that us July applicants would get a call at least before December ends. Not sure how much more optimistic I can be. Makes me want to just drive out of state line to enjoy my non res AZ permit more often.

Be aware that every time you make contact with the CCW unit they note your file.

This is not specific to you Tyd, but to everyone... Be respectful and nice so they dont note your file negatively.

Thanks for the number. I called them that same afternoon on 11/30. I told the nice lady the situation and she saw the notes that the interviewer tried to reach out to me at no avail. She sent a note to the interviewer that I was still interested and recommended I answer any calls coming in on my phone in case it's him.

I have a feeling I'm probably bumped back to the end of the line now, and it'll be another 12-18 months before I get a call back since it's look like they're even more busy now.


To recap:
6/29/22 - mailed in app & money order
9/22/22 - cashed money order
11/30/23 - missed calls in Nov from the phone interview with no callback number. Told them I'm still interested. Again waiting for a call.
12/1/23 - Live Scans complete

Initial phone interview.... possibly in late 2024 or 2025?

Perhaps Kostas or someone else can explain this to me. Let's suppose CRPA succeeds on its first claim, receiving declaratory and injunctive relief on the complaint of excessive wait times. What would happen?

I read that LASD has already claimed three times in letters to the CRPA (03/09/2023, 03/24/2023, and 11/01/2023) that they're working on the problem. Can't they just say that again? I don't understand the mechanism by which a court compels LASD to issue a CCW permit within 120 days of application (or 30 days after the completion of a background check, whichever is later). I only understand how a county sheriff could be compelled not to take a certain action, such as the collection of a fee or the requirement of a psychological exam.

Same thing happened to me. I noted the day the interviewer had tried to call me, and looked in my phone history at the numbers I received on that day. I called back the number most likely to be from the interviewer, and she answered. She said she would call me back the following week and she did. Meanwhile, I entered her number into my contact and named it LASD CCW. When she called back the following week, my caller ID said LASD CCW and I picked up.

When did you mailed your application and when was it entered into queue? You didn?t get contacted by someone from the CCW unit about your interview?

I did everything online. The system let me pick the available dates for the interview. I'm just not sure if the interview is via phone or in person.

They've moved to all phone interviews but things can change by then, too early to tell you for sure.

Applied June 2022. They had app accepted October 22. Just had interview over phone Nov teens. They tried to call first week but I missed the call. Said next step could be training email

I'm traveling all week next week and I'm worried I'm going to miss their calls.
