Default Mendocino NF August Complex Fire - Access Closure Lifted

The Forest Service has lifted the closure of Mendocino NF related to the August Complex Fire. Going to possibly head up to Lake Pillsbury Saturday or Sunday and drive over Hull Mountain and out thru Covelo in my Brother's Silverado 4x4 pickup to see what's left of the forest. Anyone else want to tag along with us for the drive in their rig, you're welcome to come. Will stop for lunch and do some shooting somewhere along the route. Would be leaving Windsor off Hwy 101 north of Santa Rosa by 6am.

Will have my Digicam and will try to take pics & videos. Exploring the area over the years, we had found a few really nice old hunting camps set in stands of old growth timber. We're hoping they all didn't get incinerated...

I'd love to go if I wasn't 500 miles south, so much beauty in NorCal.
Given the circumstances though, I imagine seeing the destruction will be a painful experience for the locals to have to come to terms with it. I'm hoping your photos show otherwise.

We ended up going via Forest Road M6 north to M61 west to M1 north to Forest Highway 162 and east out to I-5. Am going back up tomorrow to drive over Hull Mountain to the M1 north. Will get pics vids up this weekend. In a nutshell, a whole lot of the forest got burned but sections didn't. Some of it was a low intensity slow burn while other areas are fried to a crisp. Thankfully, our favorite camp spot was barely touched. __________________

We rolled up fh-7 in the fog last weekend and was amazed at some of the moon scape right next to slow burn next to green timber . Hopefully makes for some good deer hunting in a couple years .

Just drove it today. It was completely graded during the fires so is in good shape other than the usual potholes which will be getting worse as the road gets more rain.
