Very much appreciated. I typically use Manson and do my best to stay away from PT&G.

I have good luck with Dave too, real fast, and 90 min away.

He took some of my 585 reamers and recut to a 375 HE chamber

reamer, and a sizing die reamer. Got me a huge head start to do the

load testing, and help guys find right slow powders needed, by the

time they get guns built. KO2M and many other summer shoots

are coming too fast when your rounding up stuff to build with,

and building guns this close to summer, Ed

A few years back I was tasked by a few guy from the Accurate reloading board the make drop floor plates for Ruger M77 Deluxe rifles chambered in your .585 HE, the customer had four dummy rounds shipped to me. that is an impressive round.

That was real nice work, I even had them here to feel the quality.
Now we got guys testing the 585 HE, who have fast barrels, getting
over 14,000 ft lbs. It is a great piece of brass for that and 375
wildcats, and probably more, as some talking 416.

And I'm drawing up reamer and case specs and will test in
couple months the 416 HE version.Ed

Here is the neck swage die setup, group using couple like this now.

A threaded die we put sleeve in to fit case, its top is threaded 7/8 x 14.

Bullet seating stems with these dies is same thread and we had a bunch.

They have 30 degree taper in them with hole, we redrill/reamed hole sizes

.020" increments, for last 5 stages, First sets are just 7/8 x 14 die parts with

30 degree chamfer we put on 6 of them. Matches case shoulder taper.

We have 6 more of big threaded dies if some want to get one to sleeve and

make neck swage, CH4 got those top stems to rework.

Most wildcatters got die parts to rework,Ed

MrHubel
If you ever get the chance to use a Skip Otto die I highly recommend you give it a try.
I think they are being made by Butch Lambert now of Shade tree engineering but I might have the name wrong.
I lent mine out and unfortunately it never came back.
It looks like a standard die but it contains a bunch of bushings inside of the top portion.
You set its height then stack the bushings so the case comes out any size you have a bushing for.
The key part of the die is it doesn't ruin cases and it works with any brass.
I was having one made for brass up to and including 50 BMG when I lost contact with the guy doing the machine work.
It's the best way I have seen to quickly turn a parent case into a wildcat.

Focus
Skips die looked kinda similar to yours but the bushings were thinner and fewer of them.
You have the talent and equipment to make the same die only larger in diameter and it would make child's play out of these larger wildcats compared to regular sizing dies.

I'm starting to think a short McMillan Fat Mac necked down to 375 would be a decent propulsion system for the monolythics availabe now. If brass were available; the only trick would be cutting down the forward ignition tube.

Just kidding the 100 round barrel life makes it a non-starter.

On M48A1 Spotter Tracer cases the frontal ignition tube is held in place by the primer and is easily removed.

I use a 4 inch naval shell as a cleaning rod caddy and the primer and frontal ignition tube is threaded into the case.
Snowing right now in Lake County!!!

Wow, a shortened M48A1 case with a 375 long neck might actually be viable!

Thanks,

Apollo
The M48A1 case comes with and without the frontal ignition tube. It is the same length as the 416 Barrett case.
The advantage the 50 BMG case has is you get the same casehead and can squeeze the neck down at any length you want.
The only drawback is the brass is thick generally over 0.020 and this means it needs thinning.
Good Lapua brass runs $5 a case.
Focus has what looks like a ShadeTree engineering version of the Skip Otto die plus he has a mill and lathe so making something similar but purpose made for the larger cases would be easy for him and would open the floodgates on wildcat possibilities.
My M48A1 next to my 510 DTC and 50 BMG.
The advantage to the long neck is it forces the hot gases down the center of the barrel just like a garden hose keeps water in a straight line. This in theory should promote longer throat life.

WE got a hydraulic forming die setup we made, for 375 HE,

Saves a lot of time and powder, and gets them to chamber size.

The cases we and others necked had kind of what is called

small love handles or donut, at the shoulder. If we tried holding it

all in at the shoulder case too thick there when looked at

by sectioning case . Even when we sectioned them to check

after firing, But doing them in the hydraulic die, which is adjustable,

with debth changes in the die, we was able to get shoulder looking right, by stretching

out the donut, and shoulder forward, gained .020" length to shoulder, so

made our test gun chamber longer, leaving belt step in same place,

from base to shoulder to match, after firing, were better at the shoulder when sectioned,

IE looked better on the inside of case sides to shoulder corner,

and that is how we got the revision for reamer figured out best.

Then got all reamer prints at Manson, PTG, JGS, to match.

Case forming easier, proportions better, little more volume.

Our hydro die, we made adjustable base, made things lot easier.

In essence an adjustable chamber.. Ed

Got guys getting excited including family,on 416, so making up 416 cases for

it already and doing final 416 HE, reamer print, have an action ready ,

already have a 416 test barrel here to check it in, when they put it in the

action in few days, and will be load and speed testing when cold spell breaks.

Just speed testing latest is 320 gr at 3800 and 340 gr at 3700,

I don't have a place to do long range accuracy work. just

a chrono 15 ft away and backstop 25 ft away,

And I can't get around anymore to do range work anyway.

It isn't target quality barrel on the gun, and no scope.Ed

Nice! Looks promising to have a few hundred fps advantage over the 375 Lethal Magnum with the heavier bullets. Who would you recommend to build an ELR rifle for me once I can get some funds up for it?

Rob Vestal back east and he has Stiller/Lawton actions.

Just keep it a simple singleshot, the new generation Mac stocks,

best scope you can find.

I had spoken with Rob a while back. If I remember right all of his Lawton actions where spoken for. I'm leaning toward the Barnard P-Chey action and XLR chassis and already have a Kahles 624i scope.

A picture of our 375 HE hydro die.

We use it on lathe bed, we give rod a dozen hits.

Base is adjustable, which great aid in getting best case results. Ed..

Here is pic of 416 HSM second from left.
Can be 3.60" to 4.00" long, ac long one pictured.
Holds 280 gr ball powder under bullet. The
3.6" case can hold about 250gr under bullet.. In picture,
1st case is 416 HE, 2nd 416 HSM, 3rd 375 He, 4th 378 WEA.

416 HSM will get 400gr to 4000 without needing BMG action,
470 gr 3700, it may be the ultimate target, singleshot 416..
Case will work in fat bolt actions, with heavy enough barrel
to have good, milder, barrel harmonics and be under 50 lbs. Ed

I just want a 7mm that can spit out a 197gr SMK at 2900-3000 fps without burning up a barrel in 1000 rounds and without burning up 90grs of magnum powder.
