Default Case resources

Want to follow cases, without Calguns chit-chat?

Here are a couple places to read:

SCOTUS BLOG, https://www.scotusblog.com/

SECOND THOUGHTS, https://sites.law.duke.edu/secondthoughts/
A Blog from the Center for Firearms Law at Duke University

UPDATED URL: https://firearmslaw.duke.edu/secondthoughts/ - h/t ShadowGuy

There are case pages at the SUPREME COURT, https://www.supremecourt.gov/; sometimes SCOTUSBlog has links directly to the SC case docs.

A lot of CA-origined cases run through MICHEL AND ASSOCIATES, https://michellawyers.com/, and they keep their own case-documents page for each of their cases.

And, we (a small group of members - thank you all!) try to keep the first post in a case updated with current events, as well as update the thread title.

A NOTE ON CURRENCY - in the Age of the Internet, we're spoiled with how quickly things get shared. Please be aware that the courts pretty much run at a horse-and-buggy pace, and Federal Courts of Appeal and the Supreme Court have no deadlines to emit decisions, in custom, local rules or law.

So, if you don't see anything recent, it's usually because nothing has happened recently!

Feel free to post additional resources, but this is NOT a case-discussion thread. Please use the individual case threads.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

The links to the tables below are maintained by https://opensourcedefense.org/ I believe they are a relatively new organization, don't know much about them other than what's on their page, but the tables have been a quick easy go-to location for be me to be able to see status updates and court fillings.

Default Dave Kopel has given us "The Sources Cited by the Supreme Court in Bruen"

https://reason.com/volokh/2023/02/13...ourt-in-bruen/

Quote:
here are 289 sources cited in Bruen. Of these, 288 are readily available online or in modern reprints of older books. The only obscure source cited by the Bruen majority was an 1853 case from the Worcester County Court, in Massachusetts, which was originally cited in a law journal article by history professor Saul Cornell, and which is cited in the journal as being "on file with author."

The Bruen methodology of the 288 easily accessible public source cites shows the methodology that lower courts should use. The lone Bruen cite to professor Cornell's private source was simply part of a refutation of an argument made by professor Cornell and the dissent.
