Default Yolo - P51 Mustang

I was leaving Yolo Sportsman last Sunday and I saw a white plane sitting there on the runway. It looked like a P51 but with an experimental canopy (not the typical bubble canopy).

Just curious if anyone knows about it. It later roared over my head as I was driving down the road. I could swear I heard a merlin engine.

Man, I worked at Skydance for years and there was never anything cool hangared there except a Beech Starship. I sorely miss Yolo Sportsman, I used to hear steel ringing all day long as I was packing chutes.

I was out shooting a Targetmasters match and a freaking beautiful Silver and Yellow Mustang was flying.
You can't see the runway because of the berm, when the Mustang throttled up to take off, I could tell by the sound it was something special. When it cleared the berm and trees it was truly a beautiful sight. When it took off it sounded like it could rip off your head and poop down your neck.

How long ago was this sighting?I know of one plane that comes close(Precious Metal) in description, but it is out of Kissimee,FL,and currently under going a complete rebuild after a ground fire.

I looked up Precious Metal and it wasn't that one. It didn't have that much yellow on it. IIRC it had a yellow vertical stabilizer and yellow nose cone and front 1/2 the engine cover. It was checker boarded too.

It was early last summer I think, April or May 2016.

Sometime before the start of this years Reno air races,Voodoo will be attempting to break the 3km speed record for piston powdered, propeller driven aircraft. The record is currently held by Rare Bear(F6F bearcat)at 528.315.
To establish a new record the previous record must be beat by %1,and the time will be averaged over two runs in each direction.
