Honestly cant go wrong with BCM. One of my favorites. If you absolutely want to give it a great upgrade. Buy a JP FMOS BCG (Full Mass) and sell the existing BCM BCG or keep it as a backup.

Daniel Defense is what I like. Buying a complete upper is the way to go. But any of the brands these guys are recommending are good to go too.

The Noveske, JP, Daniel Defense, LMT's and other high end uppers are awesome, but realistically the quality of any of the other respected name brands such as Colt, BCM, Bushmaster, S&W, Sig, etc are all 100% functional and viable options.

I think the bigger issue is whether or not your department is going to provide you with the assets such as on duty range time, ammo, armorer support and good training to stay proficient with your patrol rifle. Using 55gr, each rifle is 2653 meters worth of potential liability.

That being said, purchase any of the good quality suggestions that have been posted that meets your budget and your personal requirements, then train train train.

Windham Weaponry, S&W and Bushmaster might be other equal alternatives to Colt in that same price point.

I have purchased my replacement 6940 upper from AU, and they are rock solid, fast shipping, I think I received it the next day!

My buddy from SDPD said officer arent issued rifles. They are required to purchase there on. I'm sure the department sets standard for the rifles and mandate training courses.
