So I cant find my mini Griptillian. No idea where she is. Its a bit of a bummer because it was a custom shop one with don't-lose-it neon green scales and my initials on the blade but such is life I guess.
I'm open to other options but I'm within LA city limits a lot so I need one with a blade less than 3". I don't like liner locks and do really like Benchmade Axis or similar setups from other manufacturers. Any good options before I just order up a new Mini Grip? |

See, this is a problem with expensive knives: when you lose them, it hurts.
The guys who installed my air conditioning unit, they carried cheap box cutters. One of them said "I will spend $5.00 and see how long it lasts". These guys are constantly losing their box cutter knives, wearing them out, and it does not make economic sense to buy a $50 to $200 knife, only to lose it. My advice: buy a box cutter knife, the blades are cheap and replaceable. |

The Spyderco Manix 2 has a Caged Ball Bearing Lock, which is sort of like the Benchmade Axis, but better. The blade length is over 3", but your an American, so it's not a problem, right? But if it is, the Native 5 is another nice knife from Spyderco. It's a backlock that's under 3". But before you go off and order the first one you find, be aware that Spyderco makes knives with very esoteric flavors of steel. Pick the knife, then pick the steel you want. Both the knives I've mentioned come with CPM SPY27 steel. I think you'd be happy with either of these knives in SPY27.

Why do you not like the lightweight versions. I have several Para 3’s and I carry my lightweight try most. Just because it’s so much lighter than my standard para 3 and like the deeper carry clip

![]() If you really liked the Mini Griptillian did you know Doug Ritter (Pro-Knife Rights guy) who actually had his own custom Griptillian line teamed up with Houge and made an improved Griptillian and Mini Griptillian? It really is better quality all around than what BM is putting out from the blade, washers, axis lock, springs and handle: Mini Griptillian: https://knifeworks.com/doug-ritter-m...k-stonewashed/

Ignore those anti-benchmade people.
![]() Get another one. So many great choices. I really love my Bugouts. Light weight and they come in a variety of colors and price points... https://www.smkw.com/catalogsearch/r...=1665&q=bugout

As noted above, if you like Benchmade, you will love Ritter Hogues.
This would be my pick: https://knifeworks.com/doug-ritter-m...0-stonewashed/ Hogue deka is a great option too, I think hogue's crossbar lock is the best. I'd pick the Ritter over the deka because of the scale shape. Deka scales are mostly flat, while the Ritter is nicely contoured. Otherwise, same steel, same lock, great factory edges. |

A vote for new mini grip, but I did handle a neat little custom Bugout the other day, without the steel liners like the minigrip it is very svelte and light in the hand.
I edc this as my pocketknife a Feist by Justin Lundquist made in the chicom mills by Kizer, they come up once in a while for a song given the features and build quality on a full ti handle. |

Still angry about loosing my EDC Benchamade Mini AFAC a decade ago...Now I carry cheaper but nice knives I don't care about. Kershaw Leek or a Civivi Elementum are my go to knives nowdays (while the benchmades stay home.)
