Castro Valley!!! You're quite mad! Not even close.
It's an exit off the 15 about 10 minutes north of Victorville.
And I am also down for the clean up if we can get one together. I don't care if it happens a week or a year from now, I'm in, so it don't matter how long this post is up.

You need to get about fifty 40-yard dumpsters, that's what needs to be done at Hodge.

I was there today and I've seen it look worse. Took a plastic torso and a big bag of shotgun shells and some pieces of plastic bottles home with me to put in the trash..

I'm not quite sure where one would start cleaning hodge....what hill? The tower? All of the surrounding shooting spots? If you take the dirt road north west around the tower hill, and go about a mile into the desert north-northwest, you will come across many many shooting spots.

I'm going guess there is 10+ tons of DANGEROUS AND HAZARDOUS WASTE out there. I'm talking mercury, lead, glass, chemical containers...people dump and shoot all sorts of stuff they shouldn't. All the CRT TVs, fluorescent lights, glass bottles.

Not trying to discourage this, it's a great idea. In fact, I have suggested this cleanup before, but what it really needs is an environmental remediation team in full hazmat suits. Don't believe me? Walk out on hodge in sandals and see for yourself. What we need is tractors, graders, and trailers.

If this is happening, it does not matter where it is started. The best place to start is just off the highway, it is "FULL" of shot shells. I have shot there once, and found it way to dirty to even try..

Cleaning that place up would be a nightmare. Definitely not a one weekend job. Would have to be a weekly thing for a few months to put a decent dent on all that garbage.

Yeah, most of it is shot shells. From the last time that I was there, which has been a long while. It is a long drive for me.

I would be willing to pull a truck load out, just need directions to the spots that need cleaning. Or is it as bad as you all say it is and just start anywhere along Hodge road? I have never been there so i don't know.

I'll be heading up to Hodge sometime in the near future. I can bag up some goodies, but where am I going to dump the stuff? I really don't feel like hauling it all back to LA with me. Last thing I need is stuff flying out on the 15.

If we could all chip in a little to keep a dumpster on-site, I think more of us will help keep it cleaner. But then you'll have people from around the area dumping their trash in our bin. Maybe a combo lock that only CG members have the code to?

I don't know. But I doubt a planned, one-time event will do much good long term. It needs to be on-going.

THought about taking my kid there but man, I think I'd be embarrassed how "some" gunowners treat our environment and take things for granted. I'd like to show something more positive. I'd be down for a late afternoon for a mini-cleanup and shootout and dinner by the fire.

I did a clean up out there many moons ago. you don't need a dumpster. that's overthinking things. name a date. any date. invite as many people as you know and post it here. there is a dump on the drive south into Victorville. load a few trucks and take the stuff there. I hauled out 900lbs of trash. stacked up a tall pile of wood for someone else to burn. and took a bunch of tires to Americas tire. they took them for free after I told them where they were coming from. shoot me a PM if you pick a date.

There is a group of us that went out today and started some cleanup at Hodge rd. we are tentatively planning a large group cleanup for oct 26th. We have waste company and recycling company donating roll offs, going to have raffles, and hope to have a good turnout. I'll keep you guys posted, any help is appreciated!

Tagged, We try to take a few large bags of trash when we go out.. It is sad to see what goes on. Most of the property is not BLM, so they cannot control what happens on the private land..

I was there last week. It didn't look that bad actually. I found a bowling ball with no marks on it whatsoever (well, not anymore). I took it home.

No offense meant. Guess I'm just missing something. You said it's just a few miles from Castro Valley. 400 miles seams a tad beyond a few, so I'm confused.
