Thanks. I keep my loads medium to low so I should be fine. I'll try some plated next time. I'm loading lead right now and using a Lone Wolf barrel.

I have a question for the group. I am going to start loading some 45 acp. Will my powder amount change if I use small primer brass vs. large primer brass?

I haven't reloaded any of the SPP 45 but have a box full. Everything I have read they are loaded the same.

If you load on the high side I would load on the lower side and work back up

If you are not already at max pressure, I wouldn't worry. My loads are mid range and I use the same load with both SPP and LPP.

first, before you load the bullet. paint it neon green, this makes it possible to shoot at ghosts. then, after you complete a round, paint the primer on the bottom white. this gives it special ghost fighting powers and allows the bullet to pass through walls.

No I haven't but I do have some 35 caliber rifle bullets laying around for years. You have a use for them?

I'm looking at the xtreme bullet price list. Would it be beneficial to get the heavy plate concave base boolits over the regular plated boolit if I am loading mostly light IDPA loads and shooting at under 25 yds.? The price difference is only 5 bucks a box.

I think, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, that the heavier plate will allow you to load for higher velocity. The normal plate should be loaded using cast bullet data. So, if you need the extra velocity, go for the heavier plate.

This.

Normal plate will let you shoot something like 1250 fps while thick plate will let you shoot 1400 or faster. It is also more forgiving when it comes to cutting the plating when crimping.

I was wondering the same.
I'm still new to reloading and thinking about trying a different load. However, if this will only be a once a year option, I'll stick to what I know works.

Question regarding .45ACP
I have a 1911 that I've only shot 230gr RN through.

What can I gain from trying a 185gr or 200gr RN load, other than saving a few dollars on buying the projectiles?

Velocity. Be warned however. 1911's were designed for 230 gr RN bullets. Depending on your gun, it may not feed anything else without some work being done. I have that problem with mine.

I have some plated rounds loaded with other bullet weights if you are unsure and would like to try it.

you should try some 200gr SWC or 185gr FP, I love shooting the SWC they make nice holes in paper.

If I make it to one of the meetings I will give you some. (if you load for 230's and have good luck with that I wouldn't go out and buy 500 of something else but if you get the chance to get some for free) ????

I have some 4831 and 200 Hornady 139 Interlock bullets. I haven't found any load data for that combination on their web site or in my manual. I don't see it listed until I get to the 154gr bullets. If you have a load, I'm interested.

What rifle and what length barrel are you using.

I've shot 7-08 from a BLR with a 20" barrel, and found that the medium burn rate powders work well. The 7-08 is a 308 and many reloaders that I know use mid to fast powders in their 308s with similar length barrels. The slower powders like 4350 seem to be the favorites of the 6.5 mm Swedes or the Mausers with the longer 29" barrels.

My favorite loads for my 7-08 are with Varget. I have experimented with IMR 4350 in a 7.5 mm Swiss with a 25.5" barrel shooting 175 gr SMKs (which is close to 308) and while it shot ok. I settled on IMR 4064 because it shot as well out of the shorter barrel and required about 14% less powder to produce the same velocity. And 4064 has a similar burn rate to Varget, but was easier to find.

Winchester M70 classic Featherweight. 21.5" barrel. The guy I got it from included some 154 grain bullets and I'll load them up with the powder I have.

But the 139 Hornady's are turning out to be my problem. I'd gladly swap them for something heavier.

Bass Pro was out of H4350, but they did have IMR 4064 and Reloder 17. There was at least 6 pounds of Reloder 17 left when I left the store.

I've shot the Hornady 139 SST and Interlocks. The Interlocks are a fine game bullet, and the SSTs have a top BC rating for a bullet that's only about 15% more expensive. For long range, the 162 A-Max or BTHP with BCs in the .600s are a fine option.

Based on the fact that your probably going to have to use a compressed load with any heavy weight bullet using H4350, and the fact that the 21.5" barrel might not be long enough to allow for the complete burn of that much powder, I'd stick with the medium burn rate powders. Some like Reloader 15, Varget, Accurate and IMR 4064, or Winchester 748.

One of my tightest loads for the 139gr Hornadys is 40.5 grs of Varget. That listed on Hodgdons website as a min load with a muzzle velosity of 2721 fps. A comparable load of H4350 would be 47 grs and would give you 9 fps more for your extra 6.5 grs, but only out of a 24" barrel.

I have used both Barry's and Xtreem they both run fine in a polygonal gun.
