Basically grew up out in this area. Its the only place I shoot and noticed on New Years when I was out there how much of a mess it has become since I started shooting at the beginning of 2013. I try to grab as much random trash as I can when I leave but a lot of it is big stuff( propane tanks, tires, Large pieces of plywood, makeshift targets, etc.) I watched a group tow a old jet ski out there and blow it up with tannerite then leave the mess behind...I was furious!

I would totally be interested in this and would love to help any way I can. My brother and I both have trucks we could load trash up in. Pulled a 6x12 enclosed uhaul out last trip to sleep in but could also double as a awesome trash tote. (30 bucks for 24hr rental and they are pretty nice and roomy inside)

There are dumpsters inside the OHV park that are accessible to the public. I could contact the Park Rangers and check and see if we could use them.

How about we try to get something going after Superbowl weekend? Maybe even a camp and shoot in the spirit of the annual Zombie event.
We should plan a weekend trip out of it that way people with desert toys can come and have fun also. My dads church does a annual Desert Shoot Out (DSO) in this spot in November and about 2-300 guys show up. It makes for a great time. The more people the more we can not only educate about guns but cleaning up our natural playgrounds.

March starts to get really nice out in this area for weather and also scenery. So maybe mid-late march. Lets set a date and do this! I don't want to loose my only shooting spot!

Sounds good! Let's see how many respond over the next few days or so and go from there.

I also only bring steel to shoot and spend a lot of time just setting up targets. It would be cool to see if we could set up a little run and gun barrier course, and maybe 600 and 1200 targets up on the hillside. Only problem with that place, as you probably know, is that once people start showing up and shooting, you're taking a massive risk going downrange at all. Even if you have decent folks shooting around you, there are always the shady ones who drive up and do a mag dump without even taking a look to see if anyone is walking around out there.
Needless to say, we'll have to come up with a system.

So is there a specific location that you guys have in mind ? I think if we will be out in the desert we should get out there before April to avoid the excessive heat.if we can get a few trucks out there , just load them up and drive them to the dump near by.

Yes, definitely before Spring. Pretty much anytime after Superbowl weekend works for me, and I'm thinking specifically of the Ocotillo Wells area.

Any input on dates is appreciated.

I know this thread is 3 and a half years old, but any cleanups in the works for SD/Imperial counties?

Calfire wont lift restrictions until we get a "decent" amount of rainfall in SD. Maybe December but mother nature needs to cooperate.

Bring a Caldwell brass catcher and you can make a little $ too. Brass has been a bit short out there lately, seems more are picking that up. Plenty of steel though.

I went out to the pink gate today just to see how things looked. It is pretty clean.

The few spots I went to only had a small amount of broken up 2x4's. Not much brass or shotgun shells to speak of.
