Private land and a couple of clubs. There is no truly public range anywhere in Sonoma County.

Sebastopol Pistol &Rifle Club has a small indoor facility, not aware of public hours there. I've shot rimfire there a couple of times as a guest of a member.

Valley of the Moon Trap Club www.vomtc.org, has public trap shooting on Wednesdays and Sundays, 5 stand sporting clays on Thursday and Sunday and a small rifle and pistol range for members and guests only Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

I think most ranges are okay with a .22 rifle and a 10 year old with proper supervision. Call first to confirm. I know Metcalf Sports Park allows it and that is a great outdoor range. Cool people (customers and ROs). Casual atmosphere. Owned by Santa Clara County.

Shotguns only. Trap, skeet, clay pigeon, etc. They limit to 24 inch barrels and longer. So my 20 inch Persuader is out, sucks. So I haven't been but have heard good things.

As a pistol instructor, I like the San Leandro Rifle and Pistol range. Indoors, you have your own lane. So you don't have to wait on the 100 yard guys to return from hanging targets. I like taping my own 8.5 x 11 pieces of paper, with different size circles on top of their full size targets. You need to know were every bullet is going, to improve. You can't fix something, if you can't see the problem. In my opinion !!!

This is going to sound a bit specific, but is there a range in the Bay Area similar to Angeles Shooting Range, or Oak Tree Gun Club in Los Angeles?

What I mean is... is there a range that has good steel targets at a variety of distances? Angeles and Oak Tree both had great steel target handgun ranges, and Angeles had steel rifle targets from 100 all the way to 500 yards. In addition, Angeles had no beef with my firing from kneeling, sitting, and even prone.

Am in the North Bay.

You can put up target in your lane up to 200 yd. They have steel targets at 300 yd, 400 and 500 yds; those are fun!

Are there any indoor ranges in the East Bay Area? Tracy Rifle and Pistol is the closest one I'm aware of, which is about an hour drive from me (I'm in Concord). Curious if there's a closer place to shoot indoors.

As well as Targetmasters. Guns Fishing and Other Stuff is opening up a new store in Dublin this weekend which will have an indoor range, but I guess it will be several more weeks before the range is open.

At the San Leandro range it says $0.50 fee for "range change" what does that mean? Does it mean target retrieval? Indoor vs Outdoor station change? Any station change? Changing preset target distance but not for target retrieval?

I've only shot outdoors there. They use different target types for the 100yd rifle range vs the up to 50yd pistol caliber range, I suspect that's the cost of a new target.

The Chabot Gun Club's range at Lake Chabot has closed as of 20 SEP 16 due to the *******s at the East Bay Regional Park District.

Just thought I'd provide the full name of the range in case the OP wasn't familiar with the "Chabot" referred to in the previous message.

Don't forget Coyote Valley Sporting Clays at 1000 San Bruno Ave. in Morgan Hill! They have trap, skeet, sporting clays, 5 stand, hunter safety classes, a cowboy action club, and defensive shooting instructors who offer classes on the private range.

They have currently reopened up the range for 22lr at this time. Not the ideal situation but it's a start. They only way to get these ranges back up is to support them or join their membership.

I believe they are still looking for a contractor to meet their requirements for the improvements.

Range is alive and well, went there today to sight in a rifle. RSOs were friendly and professional and it's a really nice facility. First time there, will definitely be back.

Guns Fishing & Other Stuff has a range in Dublin. It doesn't seem to be mentioned very often here (I found only one post in this thread that mentions it, dated 2014-08-28).

I haven't been there myself, as Reed's is the closest to me. But it's good to know there are other options given the recent closures of Jackson, Targetmasters, and others.

Your map of Bay Area ranges is the best of the few I've come across (kudos!). I think it should belong at the top of this sticky thread. OP hasn't been active for more than two years; perhaps we could reach out to a moderator and update the post?
