You might want to "sticky" this list to the top of your Forum, and update the first post periodically, so it doesn't get buried.

Good job on this, I had no idea there were so many ranges available in the Bay Area.

Sacramento also created a thread for gunsmiths people had used and liked, and we stickied it to the top of our forum...

Default Chabot Gun Range - First time out

Went out to Chabot Gun Range in Castro Valley for the first time today.

Pretty nice place, a lot of lanes but was filled by 11AM, at least the rifle range. Plenty of space in the handgun range but I started in the rifle & gun range so I just stayed there.

RM were all pretty nice, one came to correct me on muzzle control but was cool about it and it was my fault. No one was checking if you had OLL, at least I didn't see anyone do it. They are very strict about keeping guns down range and mags out when changing tagets which is a GOOD thing.

First time shooting with a new handgun is free (with receipt in the last 12 mo) so I got to shoot for free! Range fee is normally $14 and targets are $0.50 but most people bring their own. Would definitely go again.

They are suppose to hold CMP matches there so it might be cool to see.

Here's a pic of me shooting.

Definitely worth trying out especially if you have new guns (offsets some of the gas and tolls if you're not in the east bay). The drive there is also a nice 7 mile scenic ride but watch out for the road bikers.

The invaluable ElDub1950 has started an interactive map of all the shooting spots in our general area, which now includes the east west corridor between the Sierra and the Bay Area. It is a map of the ranges he knows about. If you know of a range that's not on the map, PM him and he'll get it added. I'll PM him and have him look at this thread, here in your Bay Area forum for more sites to add.

The C3's, Statewide, are working on having only one map, or maybe one for SoCal, one for Norcal, to keep down the confusion. More on this as I know it.

Here's a link to the Forum: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=738334

Here's the link to the map. Please note it is a moving target, changing almost every day, and interactive. Click on your spot and get addresses, phone numbers, types of ranges etc. National Forest ranges have Pine Tree symbols...

I'm a Range officer at the RRGC as well as a board member. If anyone is interested in setting up a meeting there, I can probably pull it off. We have NRA meeting there 1 Thur a month. I'm sure we can accommodate this group once a month as well. If there is any interest, I'll run it past the full board.

Don't bring your shotguns there! Range Master said that too many hoodlums with bead-sights were tearing up their facility with poorly aimed shots. A few idiots can ruin it for the rest of us...

You have two options - rimfire (pistol or rifle) on the left side, every lane shooting 25 or 50 yards, and centerfire rifle on right side (rimfire OK) 100 yards only from bench.

Sounds like in the past there was centerfire pistol, but no longer.

Last edited by Trgt; 06-12-2013 at 1:33 PM.. Reason: added center fire pistol

Would be cool to add "features" of each range. For example San Leandro Rifle & Pistol club does not allow any FMJ or rimfire ammo on the 100 yard range. Some allow magnetic ammo, etc.

SL also says no magnums indoors.

Also they are open pretty late - check the website for hours.

Please guys what ever you do don't forget Sunnyvale Rod and Gun Club up on Stevens Creek. In my experience it is THE best gun range in the Bay Area. Period, you can rapid fire and not feel like you've done something wrong.

I asked them about this and they said they prefer no rapid fire due to the neighbors. So maybe OK if not excessive and the right RO?

I agree its nice for many things - you can adjust your target 25-100 yards any of the rifle lanes, and steel for rifle and pistol.

Do any ranges do night shooting? I'd love to practice using my weapon mounted lights.

Sort of ... San Leandro is open well past dark but they have lights. You will need to get pretty chummy with a RO to get them to turn the lights off ...
