I am interested. I will do what I can to help out, and I am interested in shooting events. I split my time between Concord and placerville, and stay right next to USI when I am here. I have a ton of handloads to test out.

Hello everyone! Long time lurker, finally made myself an account. Early 20's, male. Used to be based in Pleasanton, now I'm in Brentwood (a place, I like to joke, that is on the outer fringes of the Bay Area, Stockton, and Sacramento, but not quite belonging to any of them). Livermore is still my go-to range, but occasionnally I like to go to Federal land. I own a pair of Lee-Enfield rifles, and don't plan on buying any more guns until I move out of the state.

Hello. I'm out in Solano County and finally picked up my first gun (4" Springfield XD) and enjoy going to the range when I can (and when my wallet can afford to buy the ammo). Eventually, I'd like to start getting into IDPA out in Richmond as that's something that's certainly piqued my interest.

Hey everyone,

Sunnyvale resident, Santa Cruz Mountains born and raised, 6 years USMC. I try to go to SCC range as much as I can (can't beat $15 for a full day of shooting), but I'll settle for Reeds if I have to. Markelys in Watsonville is a great standby too.

I'm slowly building my armory, and spending my paychecks, but am adamite about showing each of my 10 guns equal love. Have pipe dreams of a SCC CCW, and will send paperwork in within the next couple of weeks, and standby to wait 2 years to hear nothing back! Going to go for my UT CCW so at least I can cover most of the states.

Hello,

I'm fairly new to calguns. From Solano county and I shoot at Asp, guns fishing, and I USED to shoot st twin sisters. When I'm closer to SF, I go to Jackson Arms. I currently have a g17, mpshield9 and mp40. Just put in my ccw app in April and my appointment is in August. Still a newbie and looking to learn more and take classes.
Looking at new potential pickups: g43, g26 but that pinky bite sucks, or a HK p2000sk . But...I really want a Walther PPQ, HKVP9, or Sig 226 or 229.

I am not new to Calguns but I am moving back to CA from NV. I am originally from the Bay but got into guns while I lived in So Cal and met a lot of the So Cal guys through monthly shoots and now we are moving back. I have tasted freedom and due to opportunity and circumstance I am coming back behind enemy lines. SO GET READY CA ME AND MY OFF ROSTER GUNS ARE COMING BACK, hopefully not permanently.

Hi guys! New to Calguns. Dublin resident. Home range is in San Leandro. I only own handguns in 9mm and 22LR. I'd love to begin IDPA soon and meet other range buds off this forum.

West Contra Costa County resident here. New to calguns and fairly new handgun owner. Have a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 sport 1st Gen and a Sig Sauer P226 mk25. Cousin and I will be doing the USPSA match in Richmond the first weekend of July.

Though I think I am more interested in IDPA.

Cool Dave in Pittsburg Cali.....

Hi everyone. Just became a member of calguns. Im Dave. Im in Pittsburg California. Im 40 and just getting into guns. I am looking to get my first gun which happens to be a SIG P320. But unfortunately the roster says nothing about it being sold by a dealer in California. I shot an SP2022 at the range (rented gun) and it felt very nice. I really like the SIG's. Anyone have any input at what I should look for in those style guns? Or where I can find someone selling a P320? Im a noob to all this so please understand.

Hey all. Jumping back into firearm ownership. Sold all my guns ages ago to help fund moving back to California from Georgia.

Was initially planning on an AR, but had a hard time getting excited about the whole featureless thing. Ended up buying a Springfield M1A SOCOM. Ten day wait is killing me. Really looking forward to putting some holes in paper.

Hi all. I'm an Advertising Creative (Graphic Designer and Writer) who lives and works in San Francisco. I grew up in SoCal in the 80's and I recently moved back to SF after two decades in New York City, where gun laws are even worse than in San Francisco ($350/gun for a home ownership permit.. that is if you are even lucky enough to get issued a permit and that's just to store a firearm in your own home. Forget about CC unless you're a cop, politician or celebrity)

I've been shooting pistols most of my adult life but am relatively new to long guns (other than my old Marlin .22LR). My regular ranges are Jackson Arms (pistols) and Santa Clara/Metcalf (AR and shotgun). I just created my first review video for my first shotgun.
https://youtu.be/raLE86wctVc

I'm looking forward to meeting and shooting with other responsible gun owners and CalGuns members.

Hi all, WDL1982, or Walter here.
Born and raised in Belgium, moved to Bay Area for work in 2013. Obtained green card Sept 2017, one day later, walked into a gun shop and bought:
- Sig P226 Mk25 Navy
- Ruger Mini 14
- VEPR AK featureless (grip wrap). The gun shop just got the gun in that day, after it was found in a US warehouse, shoved in the back somewhere, imported pre-ban.

I've been shooting with a few friends and a few times at the rental range, looking forward to owning my own hardware.
Always interested to get to know fellow shooters and learn about good places/ranges to shoot.
Live in Concord, CA, probably moving to Sacramento area later this year. Work in Palo Alto, CA as software license compliance manager.

It seems that we have a lot of people are interested in doing a together or meetup. I know when I was in So Cal, I used to attend the monthly shoot by fellow Cal Gun members out at Burro Canyon and the Firing Line in Burbank. The problem is usually location. Burro Canyon had a lot of space where we could shoot under an RSO, BBQ then eat right on the range. I don't see that happening anywhere here. Even the meetups at the Firing Line in Burbank the range opened up a meeting room to the group to hang out in. I wonder if we could get something going like that here. I believe that would do a lot for morale here for Bay Area Members.

I was at Jackson Arms and I ran into a neighbor who've known for over 10 years and didn't know he was into firearms. I have a group of friends that meet from time to time that participate in may aspects of shooting sports from plain shooting at the range to trap and a lot of us have started shooting local matches. If anyone is interested in meeting up please PM me.

I'm a range officer for Richmond's action pistol range. If you have any questions about the action shooting games up at Richmond, let me know.

Great to know! I will probably see you often in the future, then

As a matter of fact, I'm planning to take the IPSC intro class in December there. This will be my first time to the range. Is it OK to use steel-cased ammo on the action range? Once I take the intro class and can go to the regular Saturday practice session, do I need to bring my own IPSC cardboard targets/tape, or will these be provided?

Last question is about the membership - I have a shooting buddy who is a member at Richmond and he's willing to sponsor me. Is there certain "waiting period" for new people before they can apply? Or is this something that I can get started when I go there to take the class?

Thanks much!

LOL. I'm the teacher for December's class. You have confirmed your spot with Steve Cachia, correct? There's a backlog on spots, so people need to pre-register with Steve before they are guaranteed a seat.

Steel-cased ammo is fine.

For Saturday practices, the club provides the targets, tape, etc.

No waiting period. If he is willing to sponsor you now, then you can start the membership process immediately.

Haha, what coincidence. I have not pre-registered yet. Will call Steve tomorrow. Hope I can get a spot for the 12/16 class.

Hopefully it works out and see you in the class!

Hey everybody. Recently moved to Santa Clara from a much less restrictive state and have brought 3 guns with me... 2 pistols: Glock 43 and Ruger SR1911 (both of which I believe are off “roster”?) and a good ol Remington 870.

I’m unaware of what’s needed to be legal with these weapons in CA. I understand I have little hope of obtaining a Concealed carry permit for the pistols and I’d like some information on the costs associated with registering or whatever you gotta do in this neck of the woods. I apologize if the site is littered with info and I missed it - I’m on mobile.

Otherwise, I’m very interested in 3 gun and action shooting and will hopefully be making a trip to a few ranges nearby.

Any direction or helpnianmuch appreciated. Thank you very much

You need to register the guns with the state within 60 days of moving here. You have to submit a $19 fee with the form, but you can register as many guns as you want for that fee (just use additional copies of the form if you have more than the three that fit on the form).

https://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/a...s/ab991frm.pdf

You should be good with all the guns, since none of them sound like they violate any of the assault weapon or high cap magazine laws.

Hi - New member here in the Concord area.

I started shooting while in high school in the mid to late '80s. Then, it was .22 rifle and skeet shooting. Some years after that I got in to handgun shooting, and started going to the IPSC range at Richmond for practice after taking a tactical handgun course. I never competed, and the cost became too high for me while going through college, so I got out of shooting at the time.

Now, fast forward 20+ years later and I am getting in to shooting again. My primary interest is action pistol. I have a Sig P220 .45 and a Kimber 1911 .45. Since the USI pistol range is closed, I am attempting to get in to the March IPSC class at Richmond, and I see San Leandro does steel shoots on Saturday evenings.

I'm also interested in skeet and trap shooting. I just went trap shooting at USI - I thought I would do a lot better than I did, but oh well. I have my old Mossberg 5500 autoloader.

I reloaded 12ga shells when skeet shooting years ago, and now I am interested in relearning/learning to reload 12ga, .45 and whatever else I buy in the next year or so.

I still have my .22 rifles, and now I have kids. I've been talking with my 8 year old daughter about going out to shoot the old Marlin 25 .22 bolt action.

Other interests: coffee, street motorcycles, skiing, and some other gear-intensive hobbies that I haven't taken up in a while.

Default Posting on the Chapter page too!

Hi all,
Thought it time to post.
Living in the Bay area. (Tri Valley)
Ex Brit (don't hold that against me)...so even though the rules are tight in CA they're nothing like the UK.
Built a couple of AR's and now the proud owner of a Springfield Loaded.

Looking to get into the steel shooting, after i practice a little more!

Thanks Gryff,
Was there a couple of weeks ago at the indoor range breaking in my 45.
Saw that they did the steel nights...after a bit more practice I'll be sure to drop in and see what it's all about.

Default Hello folks

Hey, I'm new to the area, and looking to meet up with people who also enjoy firearms. I've served in the Army for 8 years and working at a tech company. Glad to see there is already a CA gun community.

Moved to Alameda in July 2017, fairly new in town. Been to San Leandro R&P several times. Looking for an outdoor inland where hardcore 2A supporters go to exercise 2A rights. I know, I need to go out of kommiefornia to do that. I just want to shoot my rifles without hastle.

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to calguns, I live in Oakland. I've been going to the San Leandro Range for a few years but lately I've been going to Richmond. I liked the indoor range with it's electric cable target retriever but I got tired of driving on 880.

Default Hello

I'm in Santa Clara. Are there any group(s) that meet monthly for tactical shoots with a handgun or rifle, preferably on Saturday (ie -besides the Defensive Shooting Club that meets 2x a month on Sundays)?
