Hello, Rob here. I am in the Livermore / Tracy area and would be interested in participating in group meets at the Livermore rod and gun club, or at the Manteca Sportsmans Club, maybe others in the Bay Area. I am a novice pistol and trap shooter with little range experience.

Hello everyone, been a long time fan of Calguns, but I've finally decided to post around.

I'm currently in the waiting period for my S&W M&P9.

Feb. 15 can't come any sooner.

Default Hello All

Just accepted a new job in San Ramon (Hope I'm in the right forum area) ill be moving from the Detroit area soon. Haven't found a place to live yet but will be looking soon if anyone has suggestions.

Great amounts of info here for a guy moving from MI with fairly lax Gun laws to CA. (Peruta gives me hope of getting a new CCW, though)

Paladin has already supplied a good amount of info.
(THANKS Very Much!)

I have 10 rd magazines ordered for my Steyr pistols already.

Couple more questions I cant find the answers to...

1. I found were RRA AR style rifles are illegal, but also found several posts relating to making ar style rifles CA legal??? What exact;y makes them illegal?
What else should I be aware of if I buy a rifle before moving to CA?

I noticed I now have to register any rifle, along with pistols. Does this include shotguns?

Thanks all; I look fwd to getting involved in advancing our 2A rights when I get there....

There have been two versions of an "assault weapon" ban passed in California. The first defined assault weapons by specific model. The manufacturers got smart and simply changed the names of their guns (i.e., the Colt AR-15 was re-introduced as the Colt SP-1. Same gun, different name to get around the law).

So the California legislature created version two of the ban where they classified guns as assault weapons by a combination of features (i.e. detachable mag and pistol grip).

In terms of the first ban, there is nothing that you can do. If you have one of the named rifles, then you can't bring it into the state. No matter what you do to modify it, the name still makes it illegal.

For the 2nd ban, you can make some changes to the gun to make it legal to own. Bullet buttons, Monster Man grips, grip wraps, etc. all help make it legal to own a modern sporting rifle if it isn't on the named list.

I encourage you to download and look over the Calguns Assault Weapon flowchart (http://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf). This will help you determine the status of your rifles.

Hello All!

I'm Josh. I've browsed Calguns for a few years now but haven't really gotten involved much. I'm from Santa Rosa, I work in SF as a paramedic and I am a professional photographer as well. If anyone has any photographic needs, feel free to contact me.

hey guys im glad to be here and I'm really hoping to get your help because I have no other resources out there. My name is Jared and I'm a paramedic who works in Oakland which is in Alameda county aka the east bay. I recently joined to get some help and advice dealing with building an ar-15. I know its been done once or twice lol but I would like to do it myself. I recently bought an 80% lower and my first question is finding a person to teach me how to finish off the other 20%. Thanks guys. If i make some connections hopefully we can have some face to face conversations about the above situation

Hi all. Out in Concord here. I typically use the SL Rifle/Pistol range and Jackson since I work in South SF. I haven't been to United yet but plan on going soon since I recently got a 12g. Even though I have done some shooting outdoors I have yet to use an outdoor facility (to be clear, I have been to the SL range but have only used the indoor lanes). I have been shooting for over 10 years but just recently found Calguns (great forum BTW).

See you at the range.

Hi I'm new to Calguns, living in San Francisco's Richmond neighborhood. College student in the city. Bought my first gun yesterday, a Benelli Supernova Tactical w/ pistol grip & ghost ring sights. Still have to wait 10 days until I get it but I'm very excited and already know the next 4/5 guns I want to buy. I expect I'll usually be shooting at Jackson in South SF.

Cheers!

Hi all, I'm new to Calguns. I bought my XDm 4.5 .40 through SSE, and will still wait for the mandatory 10 days before I can have her. My first gun in CA. I've stopped shooting about 8 years ago. Used to have Remington 1911A1. I'm excited to get back into shooting.

I'm also looking into reloading -IF I can find powders, that is.

Hi All,
Hank here from San Bruno. I just joined the forum and am looking forward to meet ups, shoots, and or events. I just got into shooting when my Dad give me a bunch of his firearms. Since then, I've built my CA-legal AR, bought a SSE PPQ to go with its little brother P22CA, and recently picked up my "lifer" rifle, an M1A Scout Squad from City Arms in Pacifica.
See y'all soon,
Hank

What up. Just moved to SF from SJ. Originally from the 209 tho. I haven't been on calguns in awhile, but figured to check with ya'll. Been shooting for sometime now. Looking forward for some events, meets, etc...

I usually shoot at Reed's, Target Masters, Jackson, and now my buddies and I rent private land for day shoots.

Sup all. Long time lurker here. I finally decided to register as I was going through the research process of building/buying my first AR. Just completed the build last night to add to my small stable. I'm sure a few other shooters I know are on Calguns, but I don't know their screen names.

Look forward to meeting other like minded enthusiasts. I primarily shoot at Chabot/Concord/TM.

What's up everybody. I'm still new to this hobby/lifestyle and have read up on all the valuable information throughout this forum. So thanks to all that have contributed and have made things easier for noobs like me to get up to speed. I've ordered the parts for my first AR build and I can't wait to put everything together.

Default Up in Washington

It's been a while since I've posted on here, and I just noticed this sub-forum. I moved up to Washington state to finish college, and I've been out of the loop in regards to what's been going on in California. I have family who tells me about some of the new laws, but I figure Calguns will have more information.

I'm from San Francisco originally, but now live in Bellevue, WA. If anyone has any questions regarding firearms up here or the laws, let me know.

I am glad to be back in the Bay Area. It has been a little rough getting used to living in california again. I am currently working for the american gunsmithing institute. I really want to get back into custom 1911 ipsc builds and general gunsmithing. I am willing to help out when and where I am needed. Let me know how I can help. And if you know anyone looking for a trained, certified and confident gunsmith let me know.

Welcome Jeremy to CalGuns.net -- the best, most-active Gun Forum I have ever seen. Lots of good selection in the for sale/trade section - better than I have seen on other forums.
