Hello all,

I have moved to SF from the East Coast and am getting back into shooting. Mostly Trap at the Pacific Rod and Gun club, although I have recently picked up some new rifles and would like to get out to some open land to hunt and shoot. I'm always looking for new additions to the collections (both handgun and rifles). Looking forward to participating in the forum and chatting/shooting with you guys/gals.

Another new member from the Tri-Valley member here. Dennis from Pleasanton. I've lurked for a while and finally want to get active. I'm up for meets. I'm also looking for advice as I want to make my first purchase soon and finally become a gun owner.

I'm interested in various types of firearms for sport, target shooting, clay, skeet, and home security. I'm also interested in non-lethal. I am a passionate advocate for safety & security.

If anybody is looking for a buyer for PPT in the East Bay please feel free to PM me. I'm open to considering various items to purchase as I'm still learning. I am also going to check out some local FFL's. If anyone could give a recommendation of an FFL that can help a new guy I'd appreciate it.

Stay safe.

Dennis

J&R in Livermore (http://www.jrguns.com) is a good store.

If you need thoughts/recommendations about gun choices, just let us know what kind of shooting you want to do (rifle/shotgun/pistol, target, self-defense, competition, etc.). Guns are tools, and will have pluses/minuses for the different types of jobs you want to use them for.

Thank you Gryff. I have only been to J&R once quite a while back. I'll definitely stop by there again.

Mainly I'd like a rifle for target shooting at a range. I'm leaning towards semi-auto, partly because I feel a bit clumsy with bolt action. Plus I have a little tendinitis in my right arm. My buddies think I should get an AR because they are common and therefore I would be able to easily find parts and help if I need them. I would love to own one while I still can. I like simplicity, and I am not looking to do a lot of mods. But maybe having some options would be nice. My eyes aren't great, so I suppose I should keep it on the table that I might need a scope.

Skeet shooting also seems fun, but I have not done it before. I had my eye on a Remington 870 once but I am not up to date on the ins and outs of shotguns so I am not sure where to start there.

And lastly I feel I need to consider a firearm for home defense/personal security. I have absolutely no desire for conceal carry though. Just something to leave at home. So likely a handgun, because I've been told by many that a shotgun is probably overdoing it.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide. This is a great forum and I'm happy to see how so many folks help each other out here.

Hey guys. I'm Andy- just joined walnut creek sportsmens club. Mostly gonna be using the united sportsmens range in concord. I'm also keen to find some private land to hunt on! I always ask the vendors at the farmers market and have some promising contacts. The one in Gilroy is convinced that the local authorities there won't allow hunting even with a license?

Hello, I'm in Concord. I am kind of new to this but learning quickly. Usually, I shoot at USI in Concord, and also at Target Masters in Milpitas when I get the chance. I started with an XD40, then got a P22 tactical, then a SIG 1911 .45, and now waiting on an EAA Witness 9mm... I said I'd only get the ONE for protection 3 months ago. Boy was I wrong.............

I am open to local Sunday events!

Hi All,

Recently moved from SoCal to the Bay area. Love the fact that a Bay area chapter exists! Hope to find local USPSA, GSSF, and SCSA matches. Would love to join in on any group activities, as well.

Cheers.

Richmond is a short trip for you. They have 24 USPSA matches a year, the largest GSSF match on the West Coast, and an occasional Steel Challenge match (as well as IDPA, multi-gun, and SASS).

Long time resident of the SouthBay here. Been lurking on and off for information and recently have been getting into target shooting over the past year. Finally made an account so I can chip in here or there.

Usually go the range at Reeds in Santa Clara Thursdays for some shooting in the evenings. I like going later in the evenings to avoid the crowds and the staff are a little more mellow at those hours.

Heya Nerfheader, PM me let me know if you have a Tuesday evening or Sunday free, I'm usually at the trap range at Livermore Rod and Gun and could let you try my shotguns to see what you like.

Hi all! Brand new to the gun world (well technically not in it yet - no gun yet). Live in Union City and work in SF. A bunch of my truck buddies are gun enthusiast and (I think) are on here. I'm looking at getting a Sig p228 or p229 (9mm).

Anyway, here's my truck

Hi everyone! I'm just a few days away from picking up my first firearm (shotgun) and look forward to learning how to shoot. I'm in El Sobrante and plan to shoot skeet at Richmond, Martinez, and Concord ranges. I would love to also train for HD so if anyone has any tips on where to go to shoot at shorter range with a shorter barrel, I would appreciate the info.

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the Bay Area and very happy to join such an active gun and 2A community. Lived in Washington, DC for the past 7 years and, believe it or not, my gun rights actually improved by moving to California. Anyway, I grew up in Oregon and I'm still not used to a gun-paranoid state.

Interested in politics, meeting up for shoots, and giving pig hunting a shot.

tincankilla

PS - I'm currently on the market for a reliable, accurate, and light .308 semi-auto carbine for hunting. Looking for a BAR or a Rem 750, if anyone knows of a used one for sale.

Howdy - I shot/reloaded a LOT, about 20 years ago then just kinda stopped. A couple years ago my buddy said "Hey have you checked ammo prices since Obama got in office?" I had not....oh myyyyy, how much for a tiny box of 50rds of 22LR????

Anyhow, I am going to try my hand at IPSC shooting and I just signed up for the beginners/intro class at Diablo Rod and Gun on 12/07/13. It's a bit of a haul from San Jose, but hey, no traffic at 7am on the weekends!

Time to pull out the Colt Combat Elite (another lefty here) and see which one I prefer, that or the XD .45 Tactical.

I'm also going to try to hit Reed's Monday night for their Monday Night Shooting League as well. Hit me up if you're interested in trying the Reed's action this upcoming Monday 12/02.

A Bay Area chapter is a great thing, thanks for establishing this.

I have to wonder whether the Wine Country and San Jose chapters are effective? Both seem typically contained in most people's idea of "Bay Area."

Long time member, but not much of a poster. Lived outside of CA for a good time but have been back in San Jose for a year now. When I last shot in the bay area it was mostly at reeds and some at jackson arms(before they moved). Havent shot anything since I have been back, and am probably so terribly out of practice id miss the paper at 15yd =(. Basically I need an excuse to drag the guns out and get some trigger time.

Hello all I live in the East Bay and work for a smaller tech company in the Silicon Valley.

I'm planning on purchasing my first gun in the next month or so, though mostly for my wife since I worry about her being home alone all day, either a Beretta 92fs or 92fs compact. Whenever we'd discussed possibly getting a gun or two in the past she'd said that is probably what she would want and mostly due to being a recognizable gun from the Resident Evil series of games. I found out about the compact version while doing google research on the 92fs and I think that may be the way to go as she is pretty small and has tiny carnie hands.

Most of my gun wants also come from exposure via popular media, particularly video games. For the longest time I wanted an HK Mark 23, but with the threaded barrel from the factory and the very high price they seem to go for I've pushed that out of my near and mid term purchase plans.

However after getting the Beretta I am planning on getting an HK45 for myself. Having given up on owning a Mark 23 for awhile I first looked at the USP45 and as I again did more google research it seemed that the HK45 was just a newer, better, version of the USP.

I'm glad I found this forum as I've already read some informative threads regarding shooting ranges and gun sellers I can use as a start point for my first purchase.

Living in North San Jose and working in Newark but my territory goes from Tracy to San Leandro down to Gilroy and up to San Fran so I'm all over the bay it seems
