We should do something in conjunction with the Cow Palace gun show next month (Apr. 13-14). What do we need to do to arrange a table at the show?

I'm available to work it all day Sunday.

I think the Cow Palace Gun Show has been rescheduled. Heard San Francisco won't allow the gun show to run.

Aside from that, having our own sub-forum is great start. I'm more than willing to try and setup range meets for members in San Francisco, Daly City, San Mateo, South San Francisco, Burlingame, San Bruno & Pacifica areas. I understand many have long rifles and/or have preferences in ranges. But for me, I am ok with Jackson Arms as my go to range as I live close by and works well with my work schedule...

Hope this sub-forum encourages others in the Bay Area to step up and organize their own local meets.

CotW website notes a date change, but doesn't say anything about it being cancelled.

http://www.crossroadsgunshows.com/calendar.php

The Cow Palace website itself also shows the April gun show.

BTW, the Cow Palace is still state property, right? I don't think the City of SF has the authority to ban the gun show, but I could be wrong.

I stand corrected. But this link might be a reason the gun show might be in trouble..

Thanks for setting up a Bay Area sub-forum, mods and Tumbleweed.

I would like to propose something like:
-Monthly meet at a bay area range, Get a feel for how many willing to show
and reserve part of a range, "calguns range time"

-NorCal Zombie shoot - How about us? can't we have a camping/zombie shoot near us, maybe at Panoche BLM???

BLM sounds interesting. I'm a city slicker so camping would be totally alien to me. But I'm willing to participate for teh "greater good"!!!

this is great news.

Camping and shooting in Chabot sounds like a great plan for the mid-/late-summer time.

Would this be the chapter to join if you live in the Monterey County area. I can donate some time, I am fairly new to Calguns and have not seen many people from the area.
Thanks

I've already posted that I was mistaken. And linked an article from SFgate about a bill in Sacramento dealing with the Cow Palace...

I sent an email to Crossroads and they confirmed that the April show at the Cow Palace is the 13th & 14th.

The Cow Palace is on State land that straddles San Mateo and S.F. counties. State Sen. Mark Leno is proposing a bill that would require both board of supervisors to pass resolutions to allow the gun shows to be held here. Stay tuned. The Mercury News reported it to be SB475.

I first stayed at chabot when I first moved to the bay and hadn't found an apartment yet. I've been back several times and always enjoy my time there. The range is nice, if a little overbearing. Plus if you bought a gun at a local shop in the past 12 months, you shoot for free the first time you bring it and the dros or receipt there.

I went to the Range at Chabot on Saturday AM. I had not been there in such a long time, I got reprimanded by the watchman twice (more on that later) It was such a great day, blue skies and temp in the mid 60 and increasing.

At the end of our session I stopped at "Anthony Chabot Regional Park" and asked the Ranger if I could drive around and check it out. It seems OK, I would not mind spending a weekend there with a shooting session at the Range in between.

On the way out I asked the Ranger what their gun policies were, if they were OK with people having guns, of course legally and properly locked. She said "As long as you keep it in your trunk, we are OK".

I will be Camping there soon...

So I got reprimanded twice by the watchman and I felt like a total idiot. I know they have their rules and must be follow. I wasn't doing anything stupid or dangerous.

Apparently you have to approach the shooting booth when told by the Range Master ONLY. This means you have to wait to place your guns there, same to take them out. I got there and I placed my Case on the booth table along with other stuff. then I sat on the bench waiting for them to stop shooting so I could place my Targets.

The guy comes over and said to me "You are not supposed to approach the tables with anything while shooting is in session"....I apologized and went along. Well same thing happened at the end....I started packing all my stuff AFTER the Range Master had declared a cease fire....The guy politely came over and said to me...."You are holding the line"......again I apologized and finished securing all my gear fast, then walked away to the bench.

So it was bit confusing to me as to WHEN you are supposed to do things. I AM NOT COMPLAINING, they guy was VERY Professional in the way He approached me. It is ME that feels like a complete idiot because I wasn't able to follow their rules which I was not 100% sure what they were.

WHO SHOOTS THERE OFTEN?
What is the Protocol to unpack\pack your gear?

I'm in Santa Clara/San Jose. I frequent Metcalf, Chabot and Targetmasters. I might have to try out Sunnyvale Rod and Gun this week.

In regards to Chabot, I believe the only time you can set your stuff down on the shooting benches is when there is a firing period. During a cease fire nothing from the benches are allowed to be handled. During the next firing period you can pack up and leave.

I'm not sure why that RO corrected you for setting your stuff up though.

I was looking for BLM near Bay Area, and found this thread.

It's good to have a bay area sub forum. I'm located west Contra Costa county, and shoot at Richmond Rod and Gun Club often.

I would be interested to help for East Bay events and possibly BLM shoots.

I haven't been to Chabot but frequent USI. But just as air0n said, I unpack and setup on the bench during live fire. Absolutely no handling on the bench during cease fire. Yes I have been shouted at when I grabbed my stick on targets in my bag that was on the bench; that was totally my fault. But yeah at USI, during live fire, I find an empty spot and unpack/setup my stuff.

I'll be in USI both days this weekend but in the action pistol range. Even though I'm still a newbie and still sucks, I'm just sooo hooked in action pistol! I'll try my first IDPA match this comming Sunday, can't wait!
