I am out . Didn't realize it was mothers day weekend so I will be out of town the 9-12th. Capy hit me up how we want to work the donation. I would like it there for the winner to fondle and shoot but they cant leave with it till we do paper work on Monday or most convenient for the winner.

This could be a huge problem for a lot of people... Might need to rethink the date.

Can people who are committed to this date on the list on the first page respond on if this weekend could be a problem? What if we moved the date to the following weekend? Better, worse, doesn't matter to you?

I'm just learning that my bonehead son may have to be out of his dorm on 5/11 or 5/12 in Flagstaff, AZ... Checking...

Put me down for a maybe. What time of the day would it start?

I don't currently have any plans for May 11th (or the following weekend), but I have a job that can send me to random parts of the country on short notice, which makes committing to things kind of difficult.

I'd like to help keep the range open and I'll have to see if any friends would be interested in helping. We already lost Cherry Creek, I don't want to lose Glass Factory as well.

The cleanup begins at 8:00 AM. I predict that you will not have to be there all day unless you want to shoot after the cleanup with us.

Cherry Creek is our cautionary tale, we want to keep the Glass Factory open as many years as possible. We can do that by keeping it clean, keeping it safe and making sure that the people using it behave like responsible, community-minded shooters instead of inconsiderate idiots who leave shot up beer bottles and appliances all over the place.

Capybara... I hope representatives from the Forest Service will show up.... We really need to talk about the alignment of the firing line.... Without fail I end up addressing this with shooters that are putting themselves in harms way by using that first spot after the dogleg... It's only a matter of time!

Those boulders need to be repositioned before someone gets hurt!

I know that the Forest Service had a dozer out there to move the line a few months ago. Based upon my observations shooting there several times since, yes, if the people on the main line aren't paying attention, it could put people at the right side of the smaller range close to the line of fire. Basically, if the people on the small range shoot against the small little mountain or straight ahead, all is good. If the people on the main line fire straight ahead, all is good. It's when people want to start shooting at angles or changing targets without making sure that the entire range has ceased firing (both firing lines) that it makes things dangerous.

We will ask the Forest Service what our options are. Remember, they control the entire NF, we have zero authority up there, we are merely an educational resource, not management or law enforcement so all we can do is ask. Sad to say that all it takes now to make both ranges safe is a little foresight and common sense, obeying the four rules of gun safety but I guess those are too much to expect from the populace these days. I have not seen it unsafe up there while I am shooting but I have heard tale that many others have observed shooters not thinking and creating dangerous situations because of the geometry of the moved firing line.

where are you located? I'm in Camarillo.

Has anyone got a source for ammo? I'd really like to get some shooting in but with 223 and 9mm going for .75 to .90 a round...

^ I hope so... we just passed out dozens of flyers this weekend at the fairgrounds.

Several people seemed to show genuine interest in helping out up there. Even more people were very impressed w/ the effort when showed the before/after pics. You guys should be very proud of it, lots of "woooows" and "that looks great!" Hopefully we helped generate a little more buzz for the clean up.

Most likely won't make it, but wanted to say great job everyone and lend some encouragement.

Very cool.

Curious, why is the photo titled "MAY-MOANERS"?

i think the dude that designed it usually works on this sorta thing after a 10-11hr day of programming... we usually see proofs coming out around 11pm-1am so I'd imagine he's pretty burnt out by the time a comp is sent so the filenames can get strange.

Also i believe that server is not associated in any way with calguns or some such - we have an organizational structure w/ naming conventions that make sense elsewhere...

I had a chuckle at this myself. Having known a few programmers, assumed the same thing.

Both myself and my other confirmed +1 are still good, I'm waiting to hear back about one of my maybes, one of them is out, but one is still pending. Should know by end of day today and I'll give you an update

Made me laugh.

It's a great poster.

Interestingly, there is a geocache right at the intersection right there. I posted the flyer to the geocache entry. Reading the entries of people who have visited the geocache, it looks like the gunfire coming from the range freaks some of them out.

Good to hear. I am a local, but have no interest what so ever in shooting at that place. WAY too many sketchy people(cholo gang banger POSs) go up there. Shooting is supposed to be enjoyable for me, not always looking over my shoulder and make sure I am not being muzzled.

I just don't feel comfortable shooting my $2500 AR next to a group of armed crazy cholos.

All I can say is "don't be lazy". I usually show up at sunrise and all of the cool people are there. We pick up debris, brass, shoot at our targets, have some great conversations and then leave before the crowds show up.

Not fun getting up an hour before sunrise on a weekend for me, but it has it's benefits. I would say 40% of the time, I have the range to myself and the other 60% of the time, just me and a couple of other nice people.

I know the flyer says 8am, but will anyone be there earlier? The wife and i will be coming from the San Fernando Valley so we might head out earlier.

Range Report for the Glass Factory Cinco De Mayo:

I was at the GF this morning at 6:30 AM and surprisingly, there were already two other groups shooting, a couple of guys with ARs and Glocks and a family with a Dad and his girls shooting .22s. Visibility was poor, extremely foggy, had to head up the road at about 5mph. The weird thing was, it was freezing cold and very windy with gusts up to 45mph, yet the fog was still obscuring the range. It would occasionally open up so you could see the 100 yard line but most of the time, you could only see about 25 yards.

I brought up my CZ527 Varmint to sight in a new scope but with .223 ammo pushing $1.00 a round, I didn't shoot as there was very little visibility past 25 yards. Handed out some flyers for the cleanup, chatted with some shooters who were up there but I hit the road at about 10:30 AM as the wind wasn't letting up.

Looking forward to our cleanup next week. If anyone has any questions about next Saturday, please PM me, Redmonkey, Socalmountainman or Gtturborex and we will get back to you. If anyone has any prizes, ammo, gun stuff or gift cards laying around for our volunteer drawing, please PM me. We have a nice list of prizes that I will be posting today or tomorrow but we can always use more.

I, along with Redmonkey, will be up there at 7:00 to 7:30 AM to setup our popup, tables, etc. so join us early if you'd like, but the official sign-in starts at 8:00 AM. To be clear for those who did not attend the January 26th cleanup, when you arrive, you will need to sign in at the pop-up, you have to sign a liability release for the Forest Service and you have to sign in a Calguns sheet to obtain tickets for the drawing.

PLEASE bring gloves, hat, warm and cold clothing (who knows what the weather will be like?), sunscreen and we would be very grateful if you can bring shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows as well.

Over and out.

Nice report Capybara, thanks.

I just got confirmation from CGSSA.org AND gunsr4.us that each will be donating CGN/CGSSA goodies towards the prize drawings. Very Cool!!

See everyone there! I should have a couple new dueling trees and some gongs for everyone to "break in" after the cleanup.

Going to be a fun day. Bring lots of ammo, I will have my 8" steel gong, my new graduated 6", 5", 4" mini gongs for pistols too. While there is a good amount of stuff to clean up there, it is going to go faster than January did unless we don't have as good of a turnout. We need more people, please put out the word. Look at the signup list on page 1 of this thread, we are only showing 26 confirmed volunteers and 9 maybes. We had nearly 100 people in January.

We should have a drawing prize based upon a guess how many tons we take out. We will know by the end of the day. Just to give everyone a baseline, on the January cleanup, we hauled out 40 tons...

Being magnetic, you really should do the right thing and not shoot it this time. Even though we are getting a bit of rain right now its starting to dry out up there. We would look pretty bad if we cleaned the area then lit it on fire right after. 30-06 isn't that bad to buy right now in small packs, if you can afford it would be better buy some new ammo. If not, bring the greek and check the range conditions when your there and ask Capy or another RSO on there opinion.

At his point were are our own worst enemy if we do something questionable and it goes south.
