Was up the Glass Factory this morning at 6:57 AM for sunrise. Surprisingly, there were already four other shooters there before sunrise. Almost hit two fat does with my car on E. Camino Cielo, under the tree canopy near the houses at the beginning of the road on the way up, missed them, they went bounding off into the bushes.

Then a couple of hours later, at the GF, three more deer show up on top of the main firing line in perfect silhouette, there were several of us blasting away, didn't seem to phase them a bit, they were just grazing and hanging out. Either deaf or jaded. Thankfully nobody took a shot at them, that would be bad, but they were some dumb deer.

Handed out 26 CGSSA "Keep It Clean Or Lose It" Flyers and talked to several groups. Interestingly, three groups were locals, but another group was from Bakersfield and another from Torrance? Damn, that's a long way to drive to shoot, but such is the allure of the Glass Factory.

The Rangers writing tickets and patrolling is helping http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/lpnf/n...TELPRDB5412122 the range, overall, is cleaner than it was a month ago when I was up there. If we stay at this rate and have a good turnout, I could see being finished on 2-3 hours. Still plenty of shotgun shells and .22s to rake up but overall, it is looking much better than it has been. Still have our big pile and the lower range is thrashed though.

That's my weekend report, I'll be up there Wednesday also shooting, will report any new changes. Keep telling your friends to sign up here or on the FB page.

Sosoomi, I don't have the .pdf of the latest version, do you have it gtturborex?

Might be better if you meet to get the printed flyers. I will also be at the GF Wednesday AM, I can give you a stack if you can make it up there early, I will probably only be there until about 10:00 or 11:00 AM?

Ok I'll either see capybara on Wed or gtturborex during the week.

Busy there today.... Saw a couple "TV Personalities", if you will pardon the expression.... One was carrying his trash out and the others putting it out... I spoke to them and explained the situation re: trash and they promised to take it away.... We will see.....!

I was up at the GF this morning from sunrise (6:57 AM) until 11:30 AM. If you want to shoot alone, mid week early is a good bet, we had the range to ourselves from sunrise until 10:00 AM and then were joined by a guy shooting .22 pistols with his son and one other guy shooting a 10/22 off of a bench rest.

Some notes
1. I surmise that the Forest Service did not patrol or write citations this past weekend because I was there Saturday morning and I was there this morning and in the ensuing three days, there was LOT more trash on the range. Disappointing.

2. We had a first timer for trash. We have almost exclusively had the idiots up there shooting CRT televisions and computer screens. But today, I discovered a very shot up 42" LED Television! Nice. Just when you think you have seen it all, they come up with new waves of stupidity.

3. At the 115 yard berm, someone had targets set up on a Caltrans roadblock sandwich-board sign?!?!? Very nice felony there, I think this would fall under the category of "stolen street signs".

I was there yesterday afternoon and sad to say (but not unexpected), one of the honest TV Families that dragged not one but three appliances out there left them!

I made a point of speaking to them, gut feeling was they were freakin' liars and they did not let me down...I knew they would do that...next time I am taking license numbers!

You are right...been there three times in five days and no sign of the Rangers....another disappointment!

Darn Red Monkey, wish I could join you but I have to do tax prep for my accountant. What a fun way to spend Easter Weekend.

Have fun. I just bought an AR500 long stand that holds 4", 5" and 6" plates, can't wait to try it up there.

You are probably closer to SLOSA https://slosa.org/ but that is a public range, not a public shooting area like the Glass Factory is.

Hey Dave, you have the Santa Maria Gun Club on Telephone Road: http://www.santamariagunclub.org/index.html
But we would love to have you at The Glass Factory. You are actually closer to the GF from Santa Maria than going up to SLO.

I posted this on the Planning Forum but realized everyone should see this if you haven't all ready. The Forest Service website has a post about the CGSSA and the litter issue at the GF. Here is the link: http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/lpnf/n...TELPRDB5412122

A lot of people dont even realize they are dumping, after all it is called the Glass Factory. It seems like it has been more crowded this year than in the past. I wont even bother going on a weekend unless I get up there at sunrise. A few weeks ago there were some idiots with shirts off at the furthest end of the range and I saw one of them fire in the opposite direction of the range. Also had a ranger come through and close the range down to tell everyone pack out their junk. He even turned one group who was leaving around on his way in and made them get their stuff, and it turned out he made them pack out stuff they didnt even bring, but they shot at.

Marborg industries donates 40yd rolloffs for the trash removal. It would never get done using trucks.

OK, the signs are up. Once again they say start at 8 AM, in know for the last clean-up that was earlier than the actually official start time but I could not find the start time anywhere in this thread so I went with that.

Didn't shoot but took a look at the range, it's not as bad as I feared, no microwaves, old stoves or Winnebagos out there, the worse is the pile we had to unload off the last roll-off to lighten it for Marborg and I suspect that pile fueled the smaller garbage out there on the range.

I noticed a large sign holder there, maybe 4 feet square, to the right perpendicular with the firing line. The forest service put it in a long time ago and I figure they gave up on putting signs in there because they got tired of seeing them shoot to splinters. Made me think that it would be a good place for a Calguns sponsored sign that could outline expected range conduct and also set a schedule for periodic range clean-ups, it would probably need to be made from fairly thick AR500...

Thanks Alaska Guy.

Come on people, we are less than one month out and only 23 signed up for the "committed" list. We had almost 100 volunteers for the January cleanup, the prizes for the drawing are going to be great, there will be a drawing for a shooters group of prizes as well as a non-shooters group.

The range is not as thrashed as it was in January so I think that we will be okay with fewer volunteers this time but still, the more the merrier, the work will go faster and we can have time to have a more casual BBQ and shoot as well as hopefully we can introduce a few non-shooters to the sport once we are done?

Tell your friends, family, locals or non-locals. I have been interviewing people up there for the past few months and we get shooters from as far as east as Bakersfield and as far south as San Diego, the Glass Factory is an exquisite jewel that we want to keep open for all to enjoy. Keeping it clean is the key to keeping it open and it is the key to our installation of steel targets this year.

Will be great to have you again caluke. Having your Quad and trailer at the January cleanup was a BIG help. Your friends were also really hard workers, it was great to see all of you out there helping!
