Wow! Im amazed at how rediculus those prices are, 50 dollars for what? getting something in the mail and then letting you pick it up at thier store?(and thats not even the most expensive one) What a way to support the shooters, its hard enough with the dumb *** regulations we have to deal with, then throw on a **** load of money just to transfer is rediculous.

Do you know how much BS do a FFL need to put up with CA-DOJ and BATF!?!?!?!?!??! If you don't, the SHUT the ************ UP!! You have a couple of choices: 1) move out of CA 2) buy from a local source, from what a "store" have on their shelf... or find someone local who will PPT to you 3) buy airsofts! ![]()

As of 4/15/08 I was told by Russell of Russells in Dixon that he no longer does anything with OLLs. Very nice guy though if you are doing a ppt or looking for a long gun.

I just got off the phone with Metco #2 in Fairfield and it seems the info we have about them transferring OLLs is wrong. I was told by Paul that they will not transfer a complete OLL unless it is a bushmaster carbon 15 or a DSA FAL Cal approved model. They do not want anything to do with any other complete rifle. Also contrary to their previous rules they will transfer a stripped OLL receiver.

I'm sure there is hassle but we are talking about just transferring a firearm. While the paperwork may even take 30 minutes total (Initial, computer, pickup, and book entry) we really aren't talking about much more than being a glorified notary. Sorry if that offends, but that's all it really is. One gentlemen (He's already listed here) I know up in Sac only does transfers in a small office. $25 + DROS regardless how how much you paid on the other end. Same fee regardless of how many you purchase. Tax is on the transfer fee only. He does on average 200-300 transfers/month. That's $5000/month minimum just doing transfers. I'd say that alone should be enough for some hassle. (BTW - He does this only part-time). And guess what? Since he undercuts everyone else in town, people know a good deal, no hassle FFL when they see it. I won't tell an FFL how to run their business. I'm sure they recognize the lost opportunity by turning away potential long-term customers. If they want customers to always shop around, that's their business. |

Leeland Williams - Owner/Proprietor 2127 Sanctuary Way Manteca, CA 95337 (209)-824-9547 celticcross316@verizon.net teachu2shoot45@yahoo.com NRA Certified Instructor Lee is an FFL (out of his home) in Manteca. Transfers by appointment. He's also a member, and regular volunteer for the monthly kids shoot at the Manteca Sportsmen. A nice guy all around. While he does not do OLL's at this time, he is a no hassle guy for internet bought items that need to be transfered. He does keep a few items on hand such as Vaqueros. Fees $25 for transfer + $25 for dros. |

When I had my rifle transfered this weekend, i asked, is it 44$ or 50$?.. he said 50$.. I thought rifles should be only 19$ since theres no handgun safety cert crap etc.. but of course the 25$ you pay for him to do it. over all hes still worth doing transfers because its 75-150$ for most others that ive seen |

BTW - The question isn't on my end as I WILL always go to someone who doesn't try and rip me off. How many gun owners, or people in general do the same? The question is how much business will a store owner loose by poor policies? How much have they lost already? You're right, its a free market. And its exactly why at least 2 FFL's I know are swamped everyday. Last edited by AngelDecoys; 05-08-2008 at 7:11 PM.. Reason: Clarification/additional |

Didn't read through this entire thread (18 pages?!), but I called Roger's Relics yesterday and was told that for a rifle it is $65 total, which I assume matches what is on the original list. A higher fee was posted by someone in this thread earlier.

Anyone know the closest FFL to Palmdale?
Also, if I have to use an FFL out of the area (at least 1 hr drive) will I have to show up more than once, or I can I do paperwork via fax/mail and then show up and pay when firearm is ready? Is it possible to not even visit the FFL (i.e., they ship it to you after it's shpped to them, and all paperwork done via fax/email)? Last edited by MediumFish; 05-29-2008 at 4:51 PM.. |

Gusslers {in Santee} is my only transfer dealer. Don is fair with his fees and knowledable with information. He is an FFL Dealer that you would want to have come to your home for a Bar-B- Q.
He is a fine gent .

Here's a good one, Walker '47 at their new location in Hobby City, Beach blvd and Ball. They relocated back at Hobby City earlier this year and not only do they do PPTs for $65.00 including DROS but they are now OLL friendly. I went by their new location yesterday and was pleased to see a sign on the front door letting people know that they could help you out getting a California legal AR and a list of the lowers they carried and their pricing. They have always catered to the SASS and re-enactors crowd, they still have a nice selection of single action stuff as well as Glocks and a few others. Their hours are a bit odd, closed Sunday/Monday and only open 'til 6:00, so if you really want to see them you will probably have to go by on Saturday.

By $65 PPT I assume you mean FFL transfers from another FFL or individual shipped to their shop. Not a true PPT where two people walk in and want to transfer a gun. Kind of neat you can buy a gun again at Hobby City! Is the restaurant still at Hobby City? |

No, they are not supposed to charge you tax for an out of state transfer.
Sounds like Jim Bowen is the cheapest FFL in So Cal. I will definitely give him a try the next time I do a FFL Transfer. I gathered his info: AKI Security Training Center (http://firearms-training.info/) Office: (714) 379-9115 Jim Cell: (562) 500-3633 5212 Bolsa Ave. Unit 3 - Huntington Beach CA 92649 DROS + $25 Additional - ? Notes: Not OLL Friendly Entreprise Arms does not charge $60 + DROS, it is $40 + DROS for handguns and $35 + DROS for rifles. |

Darin's Gun Exchange in Napa charges $85 (includes DROS). Not bad for the first rifle, gets pretty bad after that. Won't transfer OLLs.

According the Board of Equalization FFLs should be charging tax on out of state transfers.
I asked the question to the folks in my field office and mentioned that many times I don't know what my customers are charged for the items being transferred. They said technically it's the responsibility of the tax payer to claim all out of state purchases on their income tax return. So they expect me to be a tax cop? No thanks. Make sure I don't see your invoices! ![]() Last edited by gunshack; 09-18-2008 at 1:14 PM.. |
