Well, I updated my AK, now that I am more experienced and know what to do to make it work for me. I still want to put a fixed stock on it, Ultimak rail on top, longer rail on the bottom, and paint it Urban digital camo (not sure).

The other side of the rail has the latter type rail covers because its more comfortable for my thumb. I have long arms so the AFG is about exactly where I need it, without accidentally touching hot metal. I left the top of the UTG rail on just in case I want to use my Eotech 552, otherwise its pointless.

This Attero mount and Burris Fastfire 3 allows for a 1/3 cowitness, even though, in the pic, it looks like absolute cowitness. The Attero mount has a built in rear sight with white dots and there is an allen wrench in the handle that can remove the Burris, but the sight picture is visible even if the Burris fails.

Critiques are very welcome and needed. Thanks.

It's cool, except that it looks to bulky (the slimmer the better imo).

MindBeyondAverage
Nice mods, Way better then in the beginning, Very nice &

Anyway, this is my scope fabrication.
Original. Romanian PSO scope with PSL/SVD mount.

Cut off mount, with different filles and little bit dremmel work I was able to fit AD 30mm Aimpoint mount (rings) on to scope. Used longer screws then the mount came with (extra length for tighter & more secure fit).
Painted with coyote Alumahyde II (need to replace rear eye-piece cover- broke).
Very sturdy setup-mount.

My modified AK's so far, as can be seen throughout this thread. I think I'm done for a while (if not permanent).

Since this thread is part of the reason I decided on an AK74 as my first semi auto rifle, I thought I should come back here now that my conversion is done and share! Tomorrow I have my optics/mount arriving, I will add those pics later.

Very nice! Especially the signature pic.

MY Featureless AK.. This project took about 3-4 hours (cutting, filing, drilling/taping etc).
Stock is pinned and just for extra strength tubes are connected, so it it's one stock in a way, (CA sucks).

Nice looking AK.

However, a Battlecomp on a Featureless rifle is a bad idea based on Hunt v. Lockyer case law. It's advertised as having flash reducing capabilities and such claims have been verified with photographic evidence. It's a CA Flash Suppressor and thus NO GO for Featureless rifles.

I know!! It looks totally different now, although I miss the functionality of the red dot at day and the green laser at night. Had a whole lot of fun with the set up at night shoots!

Nice AK, but it looks rather traditional to me. Why is it that the mag looks like 7.62 to me?

So, you reserve not to say anything just because you like the way it looks, even though it might be illegal (and have me end up locked up & violated )

It's 7.62, hence the "AKS-74". I know..more traditional, but not wood. I have an Ultimak M1-B going on it soon.

Started life as a Tantal that just runs and runs.
Changed the grip out to a Galil grip, the stock is an RPB fixed triangle. Shortened and re-crowned the barrel to fit the Bulgarian 104/105 gas block, permanently attached the AK-USA brake. Ultimak upper rail and Beryl handguard.

Texas weapon systems hinged top cover scope base, modified to work with the reciprocating left-side charging handle and sliding dust cover (sort of like an FNC or 249) that I built for the rifle. Inspiration for this was the Galil ACE.

It was my project to build a modernized AK-pattern rifle without going too "American" with it. I think it turned out swell. About the only thing I'm considering adding is a slightly larger magazine release lever, but that's not an immediate need.

Parts and materials would be about $950, not including the ACOG or grip wrap. Also not including my labor for the barrel work or R&D time on the charging handle and dust cover.

Here is my first AK

Here is me shooting an earlier version of it at a carbine class. Half way through the class I started to lose zero on the red dot and everything started to fall apart. So I went back home and got a better scope mount and moved it further back on rifle. I also put blue loctite on everything. A thousand round + later, it's still zeroed and nothing has fallen off.

I'm working on a Yugo M92 right now, will share shortly.
