Interesting note, in the following year, only 477 were produced. The stock was made in 1890. Where on the stock is the serial number, and how was it applied? |

Unfortunately, your Model 1911 was one model that was serialized, and no reliable records have been found as of yet.
![]() All I have on it is, they were made between 1911 and 1925, with a total of 82,744 made. My best WAG would be 1913-14 |

45-60 and it came with 200 rounds of Ten-X ammo and a set of RCBS dies. I bought it two years ago and no I have never fired it. It was professionally restored at some point in it's life and looks absolutely pristine although I would rather have had it in it's original condition, but hey when it popped up at a great price I snagged it. Firing some rounds thru this rifle is on my summer "to do" list for sure.

![]() That's in pretty good shape, I hope it gets "fed" on a regular basis. That serial under the buttplate, does it look like it was stamped? And are the numbers the same font and size as the ones on the tang? psssniper, TWO YEARS!? ![]() ![]() Cast boolits and Trail Boss powder, the 40/60 is a pleasure to shoot. |

TRAP55 what can you tell me about my Grampes 1897 SN 326479? I wish the internet was around before he passed, I have found information on a few of his guns that would have made him happy.

Did Winchester make the Sears .30-30? Any way to track the date on them?

I got 1897 on that, so it would be safe to say, they were serial numbered different. I'll check with Bert and see what he has on that, and get back to you.

Thanks Trap. Here's another six of Fosters for ya'.
The 1906 was an uncle. From 1919 possibly his first gun. Likely from B's (a family name) Sporting Goods, Lynchberg, VA The 1897 was Grandpa's. A mod. cyl supposedly for skeet. It's taken a good share of game birds. IIRC a wedding present. Musta worked with six kids. It got beautifully restored with a steel butt plate in Shreveport, LA, 1962. |

You're welcome, and thanks for the story that goes with em.
We all, at one time or another have held an old gun, and thought "if this rifle could only talk". Well, some can, if you pass the history down with the gun. Write it down on a slip of paper, and stick it under the butt plate. A good friend of mine inherited a 1897 Diamond Grade Trap 12ga when his grandfather passed. Thing kicked like a mule with light Trap loads in it! He had me pull it completely apart for a good cleaning, and oil down the stocks. When we pulled the buttpad off, there was a roll of old hunting licenses stuffed under it dating back to the 30's, all with his grandfathers name. We carefully pulled them apart, and he has them displayed in a picture frame now. His grandfather had wrote down how many birds he took that year on each license. That shotgun must have had a million rounds through it! |

TRAP55 this is a great service you are providing to the gun community. Thanks
I have an 1873 Winchester 44WCF with 24" octagon barrel SN#224123B. This gun was given to me by my father, he received it from his father in law, my mothers father, and my grandfather. The rifle has zero blue left it is in 95% or better internally and looks to have not been shot much. No major pitting on or in barrel the wood is dark and in great shape. I would love to get some info on this rifle. Thanks James |

I'd so love an old Winchester but when I go to the gun show I have no idea about the values and I don't want to be ripped off.

By the time you get to walk through the door, he's already been there for a day inventorying every Winchester in the building. All you have to do is, tell him what you're looking for, what you have to spend. Then keep up with him, he's worse than a coon hound on scent. Once you find one you can't live without, he'll verbally beat the seller down to a lower price like he was the one buying it! ![]() I hooked Croweman08 with Bert about a year ago, he had Winchester info overload in about 30 minutes. Bert helped him make a nice score on a rifle at the last show. |
