How did you get your SSR85C2 by Armory USA / Global Trades into California? I am under the impression that distributors like Atlantic Firearms will not make them SB23/PC12276.1 compliant and ship them to our willing FFL's here.

I know your question was not addressed to me, but I can give you an answer. You can order the SSR85C2 and have it shipped to Spreadfire (http://www.spreadfirearms.com/index.html). They will make the rifle CA compliant and ship it out to your FFL for a nominal fee.

The other option would be to ask Atlantic (who knows, they might be willing to help out CA customers ) and have them make the rifle CA compliant before having it shipped out to your FFL.

Can anyone tell me more about that grip: Is that from an HK91 or G3? I've seen a few of those grips for sale, but they didn't have the steel protrusion with holes for the retaining pins.

To illustrate, compare these two trigger groups:

http://www.robertrtg.com/g3sefplastic.html

http://www.robertrtg.com/g3seflower.html

Notice that the plastic one has a steel protrusion to the rear with holes in it where the retaining pins keep it locked into the gun: the G3 "SEF" trigger group does not have this, so how does it stay locked into the gun, and how would it fit onto a PTR?

Also, does anyone know if the real HK buttstocks had real rubber recoil pads?

Thanks
I dont know if JLD used gennie HK furniture on their older models either- my PTR91K came with a FMP stock, JLD navy lower, and JLD aluminum foregrip- all swapped out for real HK units.

As far as the G3 grips, some have holes, some dont. Doesnt matter, the stock slides over this tang, and wedges it into place. Be advised, standard G3 lowers (with pivot holes in the front) will NOT fit any semi-auto weapons (PTR, Vector, HK91, SR9) without first being "clipped and pinned" to fit the shelf welded on the magwell of semi-auto receivers to prevent full auto triggerpacks from being used. There are many suppliers (robertrtg and hkspecialist.net to name a few) that sell new already-clipped lowers, and many HK smiths clip and pin full auto SEF lowers for around 40-50 bucks or so. Some PTR's are now coming with JLD's new "navy style" plastic lower, the steel ones I have seen are no doubt standard G3 lowers that have been clipped, with the "F" position detent and letter filled in with silver solder.

Aside from the G3 collapsible stock, none of my real HK G3 stocks came with rubber pads. However, you can get a rubber recoil pad for an HK21 machine gun and it will swap directly onto a standard G3 stock.

Here's my HK911 (top) clipped/pinned SEF grip from RobertRTG, HK foregrip and bipod from Top Notch. Bottom is a PTR91K, HK foregrip also from Top Notch, A4 stock from RobertRTG and MP5 SEF grip from Gordon Miller (hkspecialist.net). Both Kali legal, G3 10/20 lookalikes and maglocks of my own design.

BTW nice rifle insin!! Keep the HK's comin' fellas!!!

Hey rorschach, what is the overall length of your rifle with the adjustable stock when fully closed? Is it over the minimum 30"?

31 1/2" when closed.

Dumb question, but why are they called "Navy" lowers?

Rorschach: as someone who owns both an HK and PTR, how do the two compare in quality and fit and finish?

I read somewhere that the German Navy was one of the first units to order these plastic lowers in any quantity. Please to note that MP5 lowers are also plastic, but have a thumbswell and finger grooves. Navy style lowers have a straight grip, with no finger grooves.

I would say the PTR is at least equal to the genuine HK as far as fit, finish etc. I do like the PTR's sights more than the HK sights (the HK has a v-notch at the first position, PTR has peephole in all 4 positions). About the only thing the HK really has over the PTR is that it says "HK" on the magwell.

Thanks for your response. So why did the navy order those specific grips? Because they are plastic and obviously less apt to corrode like the metal grips?

Which is more comfortable in your hand; the Navy or the SEF?

I've handled a few Navy-gripped clones and I'm not too thrilled with the way they feel, but I haven't handled an SEF for comparison.

The SEF sure looks like it would be much more comfortable.

One last question (and I really do appreciate your help) but on the PTR's I've seen, they come from the factory with a stock that belongs on a super soaker. I take it you have a real HK stock on your 911?

If so, does it have a real rubber butt pad? The craptastic JLD stock slides around like crazy and seems quite unsafe to me.

Is that an HK91 stock or G3 stock that you have?

Thanks again for your help.

I have no idea, lighter? Cheaper to build maybe?? I know in the mid 1990's, the German army began replacing all the G3 steel lowers with the plastic ones, then about a year later, replaced the upgraded G3's with the G36.

Navy. I do like the MP5 grip with finger grooves too.

Yup, IC datecoded

No, as far as I know all G3's and 91's came with the hard plastic buttpad, mine included. An HK21 thick rubber pad will swap in with no mods though.
Quote:

The stock I bought for the 911 is off an HK91, I do have a spare HK G3 stock from a parts kit and it is identical to the HK91 stock. The PTR came with an FMP G3 stock, which I replaced with the HK G3 collapsible unit.

So if I wanted to get a PTR and wanted to upgrade the stock to a nicer HK unit (I presume the polymer that HK uses is much nicer than the JLD junk, right?) with a real rubber butt pad, what do I have to buy, exactly? Do I have to buy both an HK91 or G3 stock AND an HK21 butt pad?

On the G3 stock pictured here, that is not a rubber pad, it is hard plastic?

http://www.top-notchparts.com/interest.htm

Again, many thanks for your help.

I would just pop the old buttpad off and snap an HK21 rubber pad in its place. Aside from a slight color(bluish) and texture difference(more pebbly), the FMP stocks that come with the JLD's are pretty close to the HK originals. If you are set on a factory HK stock, check the for sale boards (hkpro, sturmgewehr.com, falfiles, hk91.com) you can get a center section (the actual plastic stock), even a complete stock assembly with endcap, recoil spring and buffer for a reasonable price. I got the complete datecoded HK stock for 60 bucks off a seller on hkpro.

The rubber pads could be found here-10th item from top: http://www.hkspecialist.net/stocks.htm Check the boards, you can find them a bit cheaper.

The Top Notch center section has the hard plastic pad. I dont know if they are genuine HK, FMP, or made here in the USA, but Wade is a good guy to deal with. You would have to swap your endcap, spring and buffer to these stocks.

Let me know if you have any other questions- I just love talkin' HK!!

Here's one I slapped together this afternoon, Rivit build on Ewbanks receiver, Romy G kit, US slant brake. Still awaiting paint, G2 trigger, and refinished wood or I might get a poly set.

DSA 58 tactical carbine. Nice length and handy but with the original stock the recoil really beat up my cheek because the line of sight was too low for the buttstock drop.

I got rid of that stock and got a replacement through Entreprise that more closely followed the original FN stock. Much better to shoot!

Here's my Romy MD-63 1969 vintage put together on a Ewbanks receiver.

Built it as straight pull bolt-action(tapped and plugged gas port, chopped piston)
so I get the folding stock, detatchable mag, and PG.

I used the hybrid method of fastening Udrive/rivit/screws/welds

Thanks. With the way it's set up you fire, pull the charging handle back to eject the case and load a new one, then repeat, works best with a sling.
