Norinco SKS and Springfield Garand. I like to think of this picture as "communism vs. capitalism"

Yah, I love both rifles. The M1 is just such an amazing gun though, I drool over the damn thing every time I drag it out of the safe just because of the quality of the build and history the sks is more fun because I can shoot the crap outta it with corrosive steel cased surplus and just give it a quick wipe down and not lose any sleep over it. My dad bought it for like $79 back in like 1990 and it has probably only had 1k or so rounds fired through it since then, so it's still in great shape.

Looks clean, Blaze Kenobi. Did you refinish the stock?

Nope, it was stored for 16 years till the last owner decided to put 400 rounds through it and then sell it to me. It was made in the 90s and was stored since it got to the states.

I picked up this para from another Calgunner last year. It's been cleaned up, refinished and mounted in a custom stock.

Hands down the nicest SKS I have ever seen.
I'd probably hate to take it hunting or even range if I had it.

Hoologan,

I'd really like to know how you beautified that stock; I've managed to bake all the cosmoline out of the stock and have sanded it down, but I can't decide on a finish.

Not as nice as Hooligan's but I also refinished mine. I bought the cheese grater before I found out how hard it is to get on so that may wait for a while..

Very Happy with it

Here's a pic from a while ago, now have a scope mounted on it. Buddy did a fern camo job on it, love how it looks. Wish it didn't have the red star on it:

Heres mine. It's gone through a big renovation since I purchased it.

1954 Russian Tula

(When I bought it)

(Now)

I'm thinking about selling her, and buying a decent condition Chinese. She shoots great, but still needs some love to get her back 100%.

I randomly found myself in this thread and ended up staring at this SKS for five minutes. Literally just staring at it. Never owned one, never held or shot one. Strange how a picture has got me lusting after one. THIS ONE. Very nice.

That custom stock is gorgeous! I was wondering if he used a stock from something else and modified it, or full made from scratch?

This is my Chinese SKS I picked up from Turner’s for $399. Just barely got around to taking it apart and cleaning off the cosmoline.
The sun and boiling hot water worked best for me.

Hopefully with many Calgunners buying from Classic and Turner’s , we can see more SKS pics.

Some notes:
* all matching numbers
* good amount of bluing left.
* no major cracks or tench artwork on stock.

Pretty happy with my purchase

Yugoslavian M59/66 SKS variant.

I bought it in 2018 caked in cosmoline and I removed it very effectively with gasoline on the metal parts and I put the furniture in the dishwasher. I ended up leaving the stock unfinished because it is all matching.

CNC Warrior AK74 style brake helps recoil without making it abnoxcious and it protects the threads where the grenade launcher spigot was.

Scoutsights.com rail with Aimpoint PRO makes the SKS so much more fun to shoot. The original iron sights are difficult to use accurately and the windage is a pain to adjust on the front sight.

That is a fabulous Alby. I have not seen another one with that sort of wood. The two I own are nice, but they are both in the baby poop yellow color. An early model, all matching, and not beat to hell is quite a find.

P.S. That correct sling is quite a rare bird too.

I don’t want to hog the thread, so I will just post one for now. This Romanian SKS is matching and correct down to the smallest detail. It appears to have never been fired or fielded whatsoever.

Romanians are not Uber rare like Albanians, but they are still uncommon. They have also usually seen hard use. This one somehow stayed tucked away for a few decades.

Thanks!

She's got some wear on the bluing--half of the receiver cover is in the white-- and the bolt wear looks like she's seen a lot of "range time" .

Not sure exactly how it happened, but I was the only bidder in a 2 week auction several years ago.

The sling was hard to find, and it was not cheap.
