What does everyone do on there Bench for there Hornady lock and load AP for mounting? The instructions say drill holes as 2 1/4" from front edge of bench so if I give it a 2" overhang plus room to allow for washers the overhang is too much and can become week. Should I eliminate the overhang so the bolts will be on the inside of the front 2/4?

I wasn't gonna touch this thread, until I saw that post. I literally ROFL'd. So, here's what I'm rocking. Notice the left there. That's a set of 5 lockers that I got for free. Stripped it, welded the doors into 1, knocked out the shelves, rewelded it higher, and bolted into the closet. Not super secure, but cheaper than a safe, and all I have room for until I move out. Anywho, everything but the press is in the box with the green top. I REALLY need a bench lol. ![]() |

Okay here goes my first time posting pictures.
This would be the "Cave" ![]() Don't know if the wagon would make for good cover but it looks good! This would be where the real work gets done. ![]() A few collected components. ![]() Nothing like a cozy pellet fire while reading about reloading! ![]() |

The beginning of my hot rod bench. Just finished the top and the supports. It supported over 400 lbs with two adults standing on the bench. Will be adding some drawers and finishing off the legs. Wall cabinets are on the list also. Shelf is just a temporary. It 42" off the ground and works well for my height of 6'5" I can work comfortable standing or sitting on a bar stool. I also have a 4 foot 4 tube troffer directly above the bench for plenty of lighting. So far its turning out good.
![]() Yes its a hot rod press! ![]() ![]()

"I didn't think man caves were supposed to have pink chairs. You might want to get a camo cover for that one."
Hey now, pink was pretty manly in the 70's and early 80's. This place was built nearly 30 years ago and I am required to match the decor! |

that fortress of solitude is awesome! I would however add a sink and a small fridge, but that's just me. Screw the color comments and justifications! a man...man enough to have his own cave defines the colors in his environment, not the other way around. you'd done fine in my book. Faust.

Just did this in December of '09 -
Converted the single garage of our three car garage into a room. Insulated, phone, cable, heater, carpeted, everything. These pictures are from when it was first finished. Now we have a table and chairs and an area dedicated to cleaning firearms as well as a few other things we realized we wanted after we started using it ![]() Here are the pictures: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() Yea, my bench is a dual purpose workbench/reloading bench. My rental house is about 800sf and the half garage is another 150sf, so I don't have much room for hobbies. I mounted the press to a 12"x12" sheet of 1/4" hardened steel with 1/4" bolts, allowing for easy removal of the whole thing if I need the work surface for other stuff. Dies, powders, calipers and primers are on the top shelf. Brass, tumbler and separator are on the bottom shelf. I just recently started reloading, for now only 9mm and .223, so my supply of components is still pretty low. I am liking H322 more than Varget for .223, and am working on a 9mm load with Unique. I only have about $100 a month to spend on my hobbies, so my progress is slow.

No worries, my setup isn't even a mounted press, I'm rocking a hand-press set up that hides in my closet. I don't get much to spend either, but man...it's an addicting hobby for sure. |

The same reason my sight is down, I needed something to toss into the picture and that was the first thing out of the case.
I'd keep it that way if it was a HD gun too. Quicker presentation. My lube doesn't creep so much as to gun up my barrel. Last edited by SixPointEight; 05-24-2010 at 10:38 AM.. |

Can you still open the right-side door on that first cabinet? It looks like the press gets in the way.

I just looked through this whole thread to get ideas for a new bench when we get our garage rebuilt. There are some great approaches, some very creative like the ones made from table saws. One thing I noticed is that no one has a computer in their bench areas. In my current very cramped work shop, radio shack, and reloading bench I have 2 computers connected to the internet. Granted they are also used to control radios, but I spend a lot of time researching loads, pieces, parts, and just reading Calguns posts.
Am I the only one with a computer with their reloading bench? |

My work was disposing of some retired laptops, so I went "dumpter diving" (well, not literally). If I can get linux running on one, and can connect it to a wireless access point, I'll probably end up keeping one on my reloading bench.
I keep all my load data in excel spreadsheets, anyways - so this will save me a trip into the house to transfer my handwritten notes. Last edited by Chris M; 06-01-2010 at 7:46 AM.. Reason: insert quote |
