Default 10 mm recipe?

I’m looking at getting a mould for 10mm a Lee 6 cavity .401 175 grain swc mould. Would powder coat and size to .401. All my other pistol loads use tightgroup. As per hodgdons web book they have a 115 load and a 180 load but no in between. Anyone here possibly have a load that uses my above type of bullet and powder ? The 180 calls for a max of 6 grains. The 155 is closer to 7.5 grains I was thinking starting at 5 grains and working up from there. Shooting a Glock 20sf and not looking for full house loads. But also don’t want to shoot expensive 40 short and weak.

Lyman 50th has some cast bullet data. I think it's around $20.

You're just making 40sw using titegroup. You'll need a much slower powder to take advantage of the 10mm case.

Anyway, hodgdon lists 180gr acme at 5.4-6.0gr. That data is appropriate for 175gr coated bullets. I'd start at 5.5gr.

Got my hands on Lyman's 51st Edition. I do commend that book to your attention; the load data in it always has been good for me, for real-world loads. Note that you can safely use 180gr load information for the 175gr bullet when you start working up your load. The general rule is, you can use data for the next heaviest bullet in the book, for working up your load, and you will not go over-pressure.

And for the record...for a 175gr cast bullet, Lyman's 51st shows 5.1 to 5.7 gr of Titegroup in the 10mm section.

I typed up a nice response earlier but somehow I didnt post it but Titegroup basically turns the 10mm into a 40S&W so that's why you don't see much data for it.

Here is a powder chooser pass to 31,000psi for your bullet in 10mm:
Code:
Cartridge : 10 mm Auto (SAAMI)
Bullet : .401, 175, LEE TL401-175-SWC
Useable Case Capaci: 14.136 grain H2O = 0.918 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 1.250 inch = 31.75 mm
Barrel Length : 5.0 inch = 127.0 mm

Predicted Data for Indicated Charges of the Following Powders.
Matching Maximum Pressure: 31000 psi, or 213 MPa
or a maximum loading ratio or filling of 102 %
These calculations refer to your specified settings in QuickLOAD 'Cartridge Dimensions' window.
C A U T I O N : any load listed can result in a powder charge that falls below minimum suggested
loads or exceeds maximum suggested loads as presented in current handloading manuals. Understand
that all of the listed powders can be unsuitable for the given combination of cartridge, bullet
and gun. Actual load order can vary, depending upon lot-to-lot powder and component variations.

With around 50% case fill under the seated bullet, it's easily possible to double charge with titegroup as it will not even overflow the case so be careful of that.

Ok I just have a **** ton of right group. And I already have to check my 9mm to make sure I’m not double charging. I do everything by hand on a single stage. Thank you Randal

The 155 is closer to 7.5 grains I was thinking starting at 5 grains and working up from there. Shooting a Glock 20sf and not looking for full house loads. But also don’t want to shoot expensive 40 short and weak.

Tightgroup is intended for low velocity target loads and is not sensitive to position in a case.
It’s the opposite of what you want to make 10mm load that are hotter than a 40 S&W load.
Trade some of your titegroup for something much slower for the 10mm loads.

Blue Dot is a often recommended powder for the 10mm. Especially for bullets in the 175gr/180gr catagory. 10.0-10.4 gr. But, it has a definite muzzle blast.
AA#9 also works well.

AA#9 also works well.
AA#9 is much faster than Blue Dot at the same pressure with his bullet.
Blue dot is actually too bulky to get to max pressure with his bullet as you can see below:

Code:
Powder type Filling/Loading Ratio Charge Charge Vel. Prop.Burnt P max P muzz B_Time

<snipped the other 26 better performing powders between these>
Alliant BLUE DOT 102.0 10.8 0.70 1153 77.2 25417 5421 0.564
My pick from the top 3 powders would be power pistol since it burns so much cleaner at 92% than the other powders that are in the 75-82% range.

Longshot, power pistol, aa9
If you insist on titegroup might as well load 40 s&w

I been using aa9 and been great and i have been packing it in at times to see where limit for MY gun is at.I will say it has handled `14.7 grain charge with a 180 pill where it begins to show signs of pushing it.And only do with fresh brass as some like armscor sucks.

I keep it to 13.5 for plinkers though.
