The Daniel Day Lewis version is pretty top shelf. The film went to great lengths to train the actors in the proper use of the firearms and fighting with tomahawks.
Treat yourself to seven minutes of outstanding filmmaking. The native American actor Wes Studi who plays Magau is a Vietnam veteran. The movie was filmed in western NC, an area of heartbreaking beauty. You never want to leave.

There's an old BBC series called Sharpe's rifles. Sharpe's etc based on the books.
You'll get plenty of powder, sword pay and history in a very watchable made for British TV show.

Another good series was By the Sword Divided because we are in the pre flintlock era and matchlocks ruled the battlefield. I think there were 20 episodes. English Civil War 1640's. The BBC is replaying this old series now. These images are similar to the series, but are a more recent reenactment done recently in the UK.
