Default Holiday fun game: which would be the last lever gun you'd get rid of?

You can pick one of Hickok45's or one of yours.

Sorry, not sure why the embedded video isn't working?

Here's the link.

My grandfather's Winchester 94 in 30-30. He bought it new in 1926. I inherited it when he passed in the 1980's. The bluing on the receiver has faded away which is nearly universal on 94s from that period. Otherwise it's nearly mint. Grampa took care of his guns.

Ok, now pick one of those.

The float plane arrived to take you to your remote camp and darn it all, he's carrying medical supplies for the native Inuit village nearby on the same flight. Your 5 remaining lever-guns are safe at base camp in a locked cabinet, until he can come back in a few months, but only one will fit on the flight along with the 6 boxes of ammo in your baggage.

As an aside, what do you like best about the Marlin action vs. Winchester or Henry's? Anything in particular?

Well...

Since we're in Alaska, the most versatile cartridge chambering *there* would of course be the .45-70. From slow-speed, plinkin' fun with 400 grain chunks to blistering, shoulder-busting dangerous game loads. 3 boxes each (and those are 50-round plastic boxes of handloads!).

Marlins for my tastes shoulder quickly, feel good when mounted, are extremely easy to strip for cleaning... far easier than my beloved Winchester 1892 designs (of which I own two - a Browning in .44 Mag and a Rossi in .357). And while Marlins may not be as gorgeous to my eye as the 1892 Win, the Marlin is the complete package.

When a Marlin doesn't run right it's usually assembled that way for the various reasons we have heard over the years. But thanks to the SASS community of cowboy action shooters (and the Randalls Rausch and Buchanan), we now know how fix them so they feed reliably.

With Ruger having taken over the Marlin long gun enterprise, the future of Marlin lever actions is very bright.

And you purchased all of those before prices went through the roof. Seen em all and probably shot em all too. My friend has a darn good collection of guns.

Well, I only have one, a Marlin 1895 CSBL in .357, so that’s what I’d keep.

If I had more than one it would probably still be the one I’d keep. Unless, of course, I was in the Alaska scenario above. Then I’d go with an 1895 SBL in .45-70. Someday I will have one, someday…

I'd first sell my Henry Steel .41 Magnum. In fact, I am thinking about selling it now.

Then, when I'm starving, I'll sell my Miroku Winchester .357 Magnum 20"

Few more days later, I'll sell my Miroku Winchester .357 Magnum 24"

At the very last, I'll sell my Marlin .41 Magnum that I modifies from the pistol grip to the straight stock. It will come with gnawing teeth marks on the stock and only then.

Well I have a few good'ns, but my dad's 1974 model 94 would be the last to go. It's probably worth the least to you, but the most to me for sure.

Probably the 1894 32-20.
Along with a pair of S&W Hand Ejectors same caliber.
Quite a few rounds to shoot before empty; lightweight, good for self protection, plinking, or fresh meat.

Right now, the Marlin 1895 Trapper that’s still in 10-day jail, haha!!

I've got 3 Marlins and wouldn't sell any of them. I'd be hard pressed to sell my 20" 44-40 though. That thing is slick.

Solely using this criteria, I would have to say my 99F Savage in .308:

OTH, nostalgia dictates that I would have to keep the 1893 Marlin in .38-55 over the '73 Winchester as it has a better hunting cartridge. (lower rifle):

I've got 2 Winchesters that I'd probably never sell...

A model 92 short rifle that had a little work done by Doug Turnbull...(2018)

And a 94/22 (1975) that's just beautiful..

Picture coming soon..

My 1886 Winchester deluxe takedown in 33 wcf. A friend of mine offered me $2,000 for it after I won the iron sight silhouette match at Chabot gun club but I declined his offer.

Kind of torn.

My first response is Savage 99 in 300 Savage. Favorite lever.

But, wouldn't want to let go of Dad's early 1960's Win 94 30-30. Pretty much a safe queen.

Haha. When I first read this, I thought you said you won IT at the shoot! Man, before my time there with prizes like that! WAY better than a 5 pin and Chabot Award Points!

Then I re read it and woke up....

Do not own a lever, so my late father in laws 1953 Winchester Model 70 Sporter. I know not a lever but a manually operated centerfire and it has wood furniture, and open sights.

My Grandfather's 1894 in 30-30. It has a serial number of around 131000. Google tells me that this rifle was made in 1898, 4 years after production commenced. My grandfather told me that he bought this when he was a teenager (circa 1920) for $17.

I also have my father's 1894 SRC (Saddle Ring Carbine) in 30-30 with the elevator sight. It has a serial number of around 403000. Google tells me this rifle was made in 1907. I don't know the history of how my dad acquired this rifle, but my mom left it on my grandparents' ranch, and I used it every summer. I took it on horseback a couple of times a week during the summers I spent on their ranch. My grandparents kept me supplied with all the ammo I wanted. This rifle is my favorite.

Have my grandfather’s Winchester 32 Special, which he bought in 1920 for $16.50 from local hardware store.

Winchester 95 in .30-06 . Big, heavy, accurate, and about as retro as one can get.
