The snow was really wet and heavy today.
My Sycamore tree still has its dying leaves and collected so much snow the branches were sagging onto the street.
Early “winters” cause multiple power outages because those leaves hold a lot of wet snow and the branches break.

Warmer temps coming.

Luckily, here in Northern Utah, we don’t get many Eastern Ice Storms.

The wet heavy snows are no fun to clean up. Snow blower stalls and back breaking to shovel.

Woke up to 3 inches of fluff, it continued through about 11am, then turned slushy, then rain and Temps into the high 40's at 8pm. Water everywhere in my driveway, and winds blowing like crazy. Might be the night the whole house genny kicks on if we get any tree falls.

How'd ya fair in that wind?

Surprisingly we didn't even lose power. Branches and pine cone nailing the house all night kept me up. We did lose a branch on the apple tree I need to go check out in a bit here.

In my 20's the girlfriend (now wife) and I were ski bums. We skied about 30 days a season, give or take, and went all over - CA, CO, UT, ID, East Coast, Austria, Canada, etc. Even did a trip to helicopter ski in Alberta somewhere, with CMH (Canadian Mountain Holidays). Of all the places I've skied, big or small, Utah was the only one I went back to time and time again. They have some of the lightest, most fantastic snow I ever played on. Nowhere else ever came close to the snow they get at Snowbird, Alta, Solitude, or Park City..... but Sun Valley was close on occasion.

Well it fooled the earlier forecast.

Sounds about right.

My neighbors wind-o-meter (anemometer) was reading steady at 30 - 35 with the highest gust at 55. This was at 1am-ish.

I learned that my 18 month old doesn't like the sounds of pine cones and twigs hitting the house. Twas a long night.

My son just moved to Sioux Falls South Dakota a couple days ago, he’s really got no idea what’s in store for him. Sure he knows the cold and snow are coming, but he’s never lived it before. I should not be enjoying knowing what’s coming for him, but I do ha ha.

The most snow so far hitting us Wednesday and Thursday and going down to 16 degrees. Winter winning against Fall?
Tuesday rain shouldn’t affect polls I would think

Well, here we are in North Idaho getting dumped on by the first "big" storm of the season. Woke up to at least a foot of new snow this morning and it's been non-stop so far all day. Radar shows no sign of letting up until maybe later this evening. School's closed, UPS said they delivered my package, but the neighbor kid said the driver just sat in his truck and didn't get off. Everyone is putting in minimum effort it looks like....

In Hayden were I am it is not that deep yet but, like where you are, it has not stopped all morning. It's not like the last two years. When I was at the Exxon gas station at Prairie and Ramsey yesterday, there was a line at the non alcohol pumps. Everybody was getting fuel for their snow blowers.

That's funny right there.

I saw a guy selling snowman arms for $50 the other day in Spirit Lake. He had a whole pile of 'em.

The "snow removal for $300 an hour" ads are all over also.

Just in time for the cable on my plow to snap.

Keep a cable clamp handy. They are $0.89 and prevent you from having to lift and pry bar plows off the ground.
Always hook up the plow BEFORE the snow flies. Neighbor just did his yesterday and hit something on the vehicle side mount hard enough to bend the thick steel. I said grab the plow and bring it into the warm dry shop and we will get it hooked up. He was not nearly as amused as I was.

When it snapped it coiled around the rest of the roll and I didn't notice in time so it got tangled in the roll.

A cutoff wheel and 3' of cable later, back in business. Doing it in 12" of snow just adds to the experience.

It's a simple plow on my quad, I don't have the cool toys yet.

My Kubota I had behind the curtain woudn't have been a good fit for our property here. We sold it before moving and sacrificed a few projects to put the funds into a better machine. Worse case scenario, it gets put to work making money. The kids get to shovel walkways and paths through the goat yard instead

I can’t believe seeing FWD, RWD, and lower sitting AWD cars around today. Even with snow tires it doesn’t take much to get stuck on a street that isn’t plowed sufficiently. Saw a few today and I wasn’t even out long.

Those people are the ones who learned to drive in it. Traffic doesn’t slow down down to sprinkles here.

When are we meeting at sweet Lou’s to watch the carnage?

Need to wait for those + 32 days so some of it melts and then refreezes under the snow.

One of my neighbors Mom wiped out today on Clagstone. I had to go down and pull her out. She couldn't keep the car on the road and it wasn't even icy, just 4" or so of snow. I had to go get the neighbor so he could drive her back home.

Fun times

I almost ate Shiite last night at Poleline/Syringa roundabout. Pulling an empty trailer, the truck ahead of me went into a slide, did a complete 180, and stopped just shy of blocking me. I went into a slow slide, went into the roundabout, and slid some more, then somehow came out unscathed. Helping our kids move in the snow/ice two years in a row is bad juju. Last year the oldest moved up from Texas, and we hit bad ice near Greystone MT. Luckily no injuries or damage, just bruised egos. Might be bad karma to laugh at others misfortunes for me.

I think us Southern Californians are extra careful in these storms and drive more reasonably with ice and snow in snowbound states

But not the ones coming down from Big Bear

My FWD Camry does great in snow with studded snow tires. I'd much rather drive it in slick conditions vs my lifted dually.

Last year the oldest moved up from Texas, and we hit bad ice near Greystone MT. Luckily no injuries or damage, just bruised egos. Might be bad karma to laugh at others misfortunes for me.
I can't wait to see how it is this morning. Dentist app. in Rathdrum at 7. I have to take that stretch of diagonal that for one reason or another people always wipe out on. I think it's because it's long and straight, people get a little too skinny pedal happy.

At least you didn't wreck and made it home. The slip and slide is the fun part.

Fair enough but with conditions yesterday these cars were getting stuck due to low ground clearance.

So yes once roads are plowed it’s a non issue.

I've tested mine in flat to slight incline up to 8" of snow and it does great. We don't get too much more than that in the treasure valley at one time though. If we get another huge snow winter I'll be taking my Jeep however.

I can’t speak to TV. Just what I saw in the north.

Back in February, I was leaving our house in my brand new dump truck. We live off of Estates, off of old 95. The road has a slight grade. My truck lost traction. I did a 180 because of the snow/ice. Scared the living crap out of me.
