Default Lever gun transformation...purest beware!! **Finishing touches added**

I have had my old Marlin 336 in 30-30 since I was kid. It has been 20 plus years since I last shot.

A friend of mine opened a shop making a new, modern stock and forend to the Marlin's and Henry lever guns.

So I decided to give the old rig a make over to modernize it.

Started with the Chisel Machining stock, Midwest Industries forend, Wild West big loop, Ranger Point Precision trigger, etc.

Had my good friend Mike at The Cartridge Family shorten the barrel to 14 1/2" , pin and weld the muzzle brake and shorten the mag tube. Plus polish the bolt and action to slick it up.

Finished with Cerakote in Magpul OD green by a local finisher.

Just need to go sight it in.

Here is the result:

Not sure of actual weight but it feels much more balanced and good in the hands.

Will be adding a Vtac sling and another Hoptic 2 round quiver on the forend.

I got to tell ya..I really like the scope

All kidding aside, its not something that I would do to a fine lever gun. Maybe if they succeed and we have to turn all of our semi autos in I can see getting one of the new lever ARs we've seen. They use AR uppers and mags.

OP, it does look well done, not cheap at all. Please let us know how she shoots.
Congrats on your new/old gun.

Whether people like it or not they've got to admit it's very nicely put together. Congrats.
And I also just don't get it went purest freak out about something that was made by the millions and it's not even their property. Let Americans do what they want with things they own. I don't care if that's their guns, their cars or any of their property.

Also It's not like there's only a few hundred Marlin 336 lever action rifles ever made.

"As of 1983, the Model 336 was ranked the #2 all-time leader in U.S. high-powered sporting rifle sales, after the Winchester Model 1894, with over 3.5 million sold."
So that's plenty to go around and keep some in pristine condition, in the back of someone safe where it never sees the light of day. That to me is a bigger tragedy.

To my eye it's got the futuristic look of a rifle of a real Space Cowboy, in a good way, like out of some science fiction movie about space sheriffs, bounty hunters and space rustlers to take care of.

Yes, Chad Russell owns Chisel Machining in Anderson CA. and they make the stock and now a matching forend. The forend was was not in production when I started on this project so I went with the Midwest Industries.

Ranger Point Precision also makes lots of lever gun parts.

They have become very popular of late.

Here are some videos featuring different setups and defensive classes:

Looks great OP!! I'm a fan of Magpul ODG and it looks fantastic on that lever.

I've got a spare Winchester lever in 30-30 that I want to 'modernize' like yours. Your pics may be the push I need to get it done.

Thanks for sharing!!

No matter one's thoughts on the OP's carbine, his execution just reaffirms how freakin' COOL lever-action long guns are, how cool they've always been and how cool they will always be.

Well done, sir.

Thank you!

I have not really done much with guns the last two years...had a BUNCH of life changing events happen and am now just starting to live again.
So this was a project I had been wanting to do and decided it was time.

Take care

Excellent transformation!

Now weigh that puppy (sans scope and rings) for the curious.

It looks so badass, CADOJ will now find a way to ban it.

I'm sure they will.

Well...I just mounted the scope so not pulling it off. With the scope it is just under 9 lbs. So not light.

I had a waffle top 336 SC a few years ago that I had similar plans for. I got it without a stock, the receiver top was already drilled and tapped. It wasn't like anyone could feel bad about it. Life happened and I sold it pretty cheap. Oh well.

Sure, I like the classic levergun appearance. But doggone it, this is a very well done modernization, and I like it, too. The Picatinny rail makes it easy to mount that scope.
