That is correct, the form required is the Firearm Ownership Report which can be completed on CFARS (I'll link the PDF below). Relevant penal code regarding this is 2021 CA Penal Code Section 27585(b)14a. I am not a lawyer, but I read at an 8th grade level

If you can read, then you need to read PC27585. It says that bringing back a firearm you acquire of state is a crime, and it is a felony for a handgun. Don't quit your day job.

And stop resurrecting 8 year dead legal threads. There is a reason this thread died in 2014, because starting in 2015 it became illegal. This law was passed specifically to stop dual residents from importing guns into CA. You can lose your gun rights forever if you bring back a handgun.
