I wish they'd open it up to prior purchasers. It seems the second round had better guns available than the first round.

What's a good club or affiliation to join to meet that requirement?

Thanks OP for posting this. FYI - the prices are up $200 per grade.

Been very happy with ours. I got a Service 1945 Rem Rand w/Colt slide on round 1, and my wife just DROS'd her Service 1944 Rem Rand w/original finish last week in round 2. Too bad our son isn't 21 yet... hopefully they'll do a round 4 eventually.

BTW: I waited 9 months for my RGN to come up, my wife waited about 16 months.

I agree 100%. Every time another CGr posts their CMP 1911 score, I'm really happy for them...and then move my Round 1 further back in the safe, haha!!

I haven't even shot mine yet

I saw a couple guys on the CMP forum got US&S frames a couple weeks before my wife's number was up. I was crossing my fingers we'd get a US&S.

One thing I noticed was for about three weeks leading up to my wife's call they were only offering Rack grades. Then when she got the call, they had all 3 in stock again.

Garand collectors association works for both the m1 garand and 1911 requirements. Its a $25 annual fee. They also share their membership list with CMP so you dont need to do anything, they will cross-reference you if you write down GCA for membership.

Dang. I'd be in for another if prior purchasers were able. Glad the folks who missed 1 and 2 get a chance though!

You know, I sort of want one, but I also sort of don't. For the price you can buy a nice new 1911, though I know that isn't the point. With transfer fees hovering around $200 nowadays (instead of $75 years ago).

On the other hand, I mean, it'll be marked "property US Gov't" and ... heck, it's a US Army 1911.

I just found my club (Richmond) is a CMP affiliate, and I shoot USPSA, so what the heck, might as well throw my hat in the ring and see what happens.

Veteran's organization like the VFW or American Legion suffices for the club requirement.

I’m having a hard time deciding if I want to pull the trigger on this. It’s more than double what I’ve spent on any other single firearm, and I could get several other items I’m interested in for the same price. Do they really have much history considering how many of the parts have been replaced with commercial components?

I've processed 4 of these (01 FFL) three had mismatched original USGI frames and slides. I didn't do a complete take down of any of them but from what I could see most of the parts were original USGI. One of them had a "Commercial" replacement slide. But if you think about it, except for a few Springfield Armory 1911s, these are all commercial parts. The replacement slide was a USGI contract replacement. Israeli made, nice quality. Personally. I liked that one the least but it was still 100% USGI. Ironically, that one was the higher grade. The other three were the middle grade.

If they didn't limit you to one I'd be all over buying another. I think they are a unique chance to acquire a USGI pistol that you know hasn't been redone by Bubba. They are not cheap, but look at what they are selling for when people flip them. I think they are a good deal.

If you're concerned about them having history, you can file a FOIA request to find out where it's been since 1976. I did that on mine and got a nice email back from the Army showing that it had been in Germany in the 1970's, returned to Alabama, then sent to Japan in the 1980's.

Besides, there's something about having a WWII manufactured firearm that's seen battle vs a modern commercial clone. Years ago I had a commercial M1 carbine and thought I'd be happy just having that as a shooter. Within a couple years I just "needed" to replace it with a real USGI one so I got a 1943 Inland. C&R's like that are never going to go down in value - it's not like they're making more of them.

Just sent in my packet. I’m intrigued by the “range grade” modified pistols in this round. Anyone have any information about these beyond the description from CMP?

Judging from pictures posted by others in round 2, the service grade is cosmetically good with low likelihood of rebuild stamps or rack numbers on them. Slides may be good condition WWII with original finish, refinished with little wear, or replacement slides.

Field grades seem to have the rebuild stamps near the trigger, rack numbers on the grips, or maybe cosmetically a little worn. Some of the pics I saw posted I looked like service grades though.

I didn't see many pictures of rack grades, but check the CMP forum; there are probably some posted there.

I got confirmation this afternoon that CMP received my packet. Now the suspended animation begins to get assigned a RNG and see if my number gets called before the Earth's magnetic field collapses and flips polarity.

So I bought a range grade from the CMP Auction. It had a commander hammer, a long milled trigger, USGI commercial replacement slide, night sights and had grip tape applied to the frame. But it was a USMC rebuild marked so I went for it. When it came in the tag it stated it was Service grade. So assume if its a range grade it will have modern commercial parts(USGI) that may or may not be limited to trigger, hammer and sights.

Just got my RNG as well. If you think 33,XXX is high then I am in trouble. My RNG is 35,350.

I helped two friends prepare their packages last week. It'll be interesting to see the differences between each Round.

I’m right after you, Blackbird. I got 34254. Reading the CMP forums it sounds like the theory is is that the start of round 3 is in the 33000 range. Some are already getting the call with low 33K numbers. Hoping I get a call in the next week or two. Would love to get one of the range grade pistols.

Yeah didn't realize the last round ended somewhere near 33000. I'm very happy with my number if that's the case

Yeah I found the same on the CMP forum. It sounds like people with low 33K numbers are getting calls today. Nobody seems to know how many calls CMP makes each day though.

As soon as I get the call I will post here with an update. Be awesome if it was within a couple weeks!

Did some more looking around. Some are saying CMP makes 100 calls/week or 250 calls/week. Both of those numbers seem low though, particularly since they appear to have multiple processors handling the orders.

If that is true, based on my RNG and if 33,000 is approximately the starting point, I am 6 months away from a call. You guys would be in the 2 months window which would be terrific.
