Michigan removed almost all non-resident permits. But they accept California residents. Could be wrong but was sent a notice about it.

So maybe you are saying they do not recognize non-resident permits issued by other states? It seems that is their policy, they only recognize permits issued by the state a person resides in: https://www.michigan.gov/msp/services/ccw/reciprocity Quote:

This is the text:
"If you possess a valid Michigan CPL and want to carry your pistol in another state, you should contact that state for information on its concealed pistol laws. A Michigan CPL holder is responsible for complying with the laws of that state. If you are a resident of another state who is licensed by that state to carry a concealed pistol, Michigan will recognize your permit. However, you must carry in conformance with any restrictions appearing on your license and you are subject to Michigan's concealed pistol laws including, but not limited to, restrictions on where a concealed pistol may be carried. Non-residents should become familiar with Michigan’s laws before carrying a concealed pistol in this state. Please visit the Michigan Department of Attorney General’s website for concealed weapons overview and related information." Source: The link provided in the thread. Another reason why reciprocity and CCW restrictions are at the whim and wonder of those who happen to be in political power at the time. .

https://web.archive.org/web/20171201...0957--,00.html The language was a little different but had the same meaning in 2015 https://web.archive.org/web/20150613...57--%2C00.html So it seems nothing has changed. Michigan does not recognize non-resident permits since at least 2015 Last edited by SkyHawk; 07-27-2022 at 4:25 PM.. |

Michigan has what is commonly referred to as "Universal Recognition" in that they honor all other valid state permits. There are currently 20 states with "Universal Recognition" that honor all other state permits.
However, Michigan is unique in that it is the ONLY "Universal Recognition" state that does NOT honor non-resident permits! This is NOT new, and I don't see any change of policy in Michigan! https://www.michigan.gov/msp/services/ccw/reciprocity |
