Default My favorite hymn.

Is one of the oldest hymns. And where the phrase God save the King was originated. Ezekiel 44.
EzekieI's gate to the temple was locked so that only Messiah can pass through. Rejoice that has now been done.
Steeleye Span in middle age, still singing it as they always have.
-------------------------------------------
(CHORUS)
Gaudete, gaudete Christos est natus Ex Maria virginae, gaudete.
Rejoice, rejoice, Christ was born, Of the virgin Mary, rejoice.
Gaudete,
gaudete
=
Tempus ad est gratiae, hoc quod optabamus, Carmina laetitiae, devote redamus.
The time now is for grace, that's what we wanted, To songs of joy, let us devoutly return.
Gaudete,
gaudete
=
Deus homo factus est, naturam mirante, Mundus renovatus est, a Christo regnante.
God made into a man is, nature marveling, The world renewed is, by Christ's reigning.
Gaudete,
gaudete
=
Ezecheelis porta clausa, pertransitor, Unde lux est orta, sallus invenitor.
Ezekiel's closed gate, is passed through, Whence the light is risen, salvation's creator.
Gaudete,
gaudete
=
Ergo nostra contio psallat, jam in lustro, Benedicat domino, sallas regi nostro.
Therefore let us sing in our assembly, now brightly, Bless the Lord, save our king.
Gaudete,
gaudete

Re Gaudete. I believe this is a British hymn from the 17th or 18th century written to sound like a medieval chant.
If you want old, this one is from the 12th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria, a collection from Spain.

Hard to pick one. Here's one that's been on my mind lately: Turn your eyes upon Jesus.

^^^I wish praise leaders like the one above in the video would stop telling the congregation to "c'mon let's sing". What do you think we're doing miming? And if someone is not singing, they have a good reason, so stop telling people what to do. They had a tough week or a tough morning and just being there was hard enough without someone telling them to sing.

The worship leader is the…. Worship leader. If you were a WL, you would understand.

All the more reason fo a worship pastor to remind people to focus on Christ and not their temporary affliction. When Peter took his mind off Christ he sank. When he cried out to Christ, he got a miracle.

Blessings

Wasn't directed at you, but I would just take note that some people don't want to be told to sing. WL should just sing the song and let the people do what they do.

The analogy of Peter and this scenario is apples and oranges.

You’re the one that mentioned that people were more concerned with their problem than praising God.

Yes, people come to church with all kinds of problems. And yes, if they look beyond their circumstances and praise God during that time, it's ideal. But those people made it there despite the temptation to isolate themselves. Maybe they want to mouth the songs or just be silent. It's annoying when a WL says to sing or sing loud. WL is there to sing songs and not to preach. Not sure how else to express it.

i don't like that too. it's fine at concert but not in the church jmho. if i sing, people around me will burst out laughing turning the church into circus.

What about when the pastor says let’s stand/please stand? Isn’t that similar?
