Constitutional carry in AZ over 21 years
ARIZONA WEAPONS AND FIREARMS LAWS FAQs Where am I prohibited from carrying a firearm (open or concealed) on the premises? Firearm carry is generally prohibited in the following areas: •Businesses serving alcohol for consumption on the premises (exceptions for peace officers and ccw permitees, see A.R.S. 4-229, A.R.S. 4-244, A.R.S. 13-3102) •Polling places on election days (peace officers are excepted) •K-12 school grounds (some exceptions apply) (peace officers are excepted) •Commercial nuclear & hydroelectric generating stations (peace officers are excepted) •Military installations (peace officers are limited) •Indian reservations (check w/tribe, peace officers are limited) •Game preserves (peace officers are limited) •National parks (peace officers are limited); more information available at www.doi.gov or contact the park service regarding pending federal legislation. •Correctional facilities •Federal buildings (peace officers are limited) •Airports (in or beyond security checkpoints) (peace officers are limited) •Where federal, state or local laws prohibit weapons (peace officers are limited) •State or local government/private establishments or events when asked by the operator/sponsor/agent. Most government facilities will provide a location to temporarily store a firearm. Persons who refuse to leave and/or secure their weapon are trespassing and can be cited or arrested for ARS 13-1502 or ARS 13-1503, depending on the venue (peace officers are excepted) •Public college or university grounds where carry has been prohibited by governing board |

If you’re headed out to any of the historical sites or to visit national parks etc, I would be very careful to note exactly which land you are on. Some of it is on Indian reservation/tribal land.
We just got back from Sedona. FWIW, I only saw one person open carrying and that was at the hotel in Kingman. Not 100% sure where he was from, but I *think* I remember his license plate read Ohio? Don’t quote me on that. Otherwise, didn’t see anybody else. Was too busy looking at the scenery to notice if anybody was CCW. Enjoy AZ!!! Gorgeous out there and they’re not suffering from Covid mania like CA. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Even with an AZ CCW, and I don’t know about other reservations but CRIT does NOT recognize AZ CCW. The reservation borders are not well marked in and around Parker.

Thank you for the replies. Well noted.
I'm sorry to say that I'm looking for our way out. I've been determined to stay and fight tyranny here, where I'm born and raised. I've invested a lot in that. But this state is bleeding my business dry, and I have to look out for my family and staff. Excited to see AZ, but reluctant at the same time.

Just about all the tribes do not recognize CCW - each is a sovereign nation so their own rules apply. https://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/tribal_law_ccw.pdf
Colorado River Indian Tribes - CRIT Reservation (The Colorado River Indian Tribes include four distinct Tribes - the Mohave, Chemehuevi, Hopi and Navajo along the Colorado River on both the Arizona and California side.) Law and Order Code - Article 3 - Section 345. Carrying a Concealed Weapon. A person commits the offense of carrying a concealed weapon if, without legal justification, or lawful authority as hereinafter provided, he knowingly carries concealed on or about his person a knife, firearm, or other dangerous weapon as hereinafter defined. a. It shall be an affirmative defense that the accused was: (1) Lawfully authorized to carry such knife, firearm or other dangerous weapon concealed on or about his person, which lawful authority shall be by permit issued by the Tribal Council or such other authority designated by it, or by written permit or other authority of the United States; (2) Was in a private automobile or other means of conveyance and was carrying the weapon therein for lawful protection of his or another permit or property while traveling. |

Wishing you all the best!!! While we were there, wifey wanted to tour some of the homes, but I knew that would just be dangling the carrot way too soon for us. We can’t leave as we have family obligations. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Not true, if one is on an interstate or state hwy passing through, as long as you remain in the car, you’re fine.

I'm looking for a way out too. The BS in San Francisco has bled out further south, San Diego will become more and more like SF with every passing year. There is no objective standard by which quality of life will be improving. Just more people, higher traffic, higher costs, more crime, etc etc. No chance for home ownership, rents are only capped at 5% whew... oh hold on there, plus inflation, which oh shocker... that's 8% and rising. i was born and raised here too. i was right about everything going down also... and san diego WAS a good place to ride it out, until everyone else figured the same, specifically the people on nextdoor who moved in 2 miles from Palomar Airport and now spend their time at home complaining about the noise. |

I have been to many Indian casinos in Arizona, esp in Bluewater in Parker, and I would recommended NOT to carry in the casino. It is hard to say specifically what each individual casino would do if they caught you carrying, but I would not want to find out. Generally, every Indian Casino I have been to, including late at night, I have felt very safe going to and from my car, but many have parking close to the entrance.....one could possibly get a security escort (if you felt the need for it), though I am not sure about that.
The issue for the most part is places that have "no firearms" or "no firearms allowed" signs. Those do have force of law in Arizona, but must be posted properly (size, wording, etc.). Assuming they are posted properly, if you are caught carrying, I would imagine, the store employee(s) would ask you to leave, hopefully nicely. If you refuse, you are now breaking the law and can be arrested for trespassing. I have never seen this in all my years going through the state of Arizona, and actually, once in the Sprouts in Prescott Valley, where one of these signs was posted on each entrance door, I asked a checker what they would do if this happened. The response I got was "Gee....I don't know....that's a good question." Bottom line, even in Arizona it is best to know per state law, where you can and CANNOT legally conceal or open carry a firearm, to avoid any issues or potential issues. Not as many people open carry as I thought when I first when to Arizona, but you do see it in cities of all sizes. All my interactions with police, sheriff, and other law enforcement officers has been very pleasant and they have all been very helpful and friendly when I have interacted with them. However, I am sure, even though it is Arizona, these same law enforcement officers WILL enforce the law when it comes to the carrying of a firearms. Even though they are behind quite a bit in processing new and renewal applications, I would recommend getting your Arizona CCW Permit. It does not cost much ($60), good for 5 years, fingerprint ink cards you can get for not too much ($20 or possibly less), and they take many options for proof of firearms competency, and I believe military can still use their DD-214 as proof. Application can be downloaded and printed off their website, is pretty straightforward and easy to fill out. Though not valid in CA, it is good in 26 states as non-resident and 31 as resident last I checked. Sorry for the long post, but I hope this helps ![]()

My daughter went to Grand Canyon University and, as we all know, there are no firearms allowed on university property. We routinely visited our daughter and took her off campus for various things. I have my AZ permit and was curious how carrying would work as there's NO WAY I was leaving my pistol unattended in our motel room. I asked one of the guards (yes, they have guards at all open entrances as GCU isn't in the best area of Phoenix) how I could handle my situation. He said to just keep the firearm out of sight and locked in the car and everything would be kosher. The attitude about firearms outside the PRK is refreshing! |

AZ signage needs to state “no firearms allowed pursuant to A.R.S. § 4-229” (also needs to be laminated, proper letter size, displayed in a prominent place, etc) for it to have force of law. Otherwise it can be ignored. I try to stay off Indian land, that gets confusing.
