Most of those jobs don't even pay minimum wage in the private sector.

Oops, those are bonuses. Wonder if they're as good as Walmart truck drivers.

To think when I was discharged from the Corps as an E4, my pay was 241.10 and re-enlistment bonus was 0.

But then, I don't qualify for any of those positions above. Does hollering loud and breaking things have a bonus category these days?

Respectfully

Those numbers seem low. When I got out years ago, I passed on a 90k reenlistment bonus. I would think with inflation with bonuses would be much higher. Especially for the critically manned positions.

Wait a submarine cook gets almost as much as a nuc now? Wow.
I know the nuc re-enlistment bonuses are off the hook now compared to when I re-enlisted.

Wasn’t there a movie about a bad *** navy cook? He deserves a lot of money for his kills.

Those are new sign up bonuses, not the same as a retention bonus for someone that's already trained. Either way, I forsee a lot of new Ford Mustangs on post...

Not bad.

I got the highest bonus allowed for infantryman(us army) when I signed up in 2000. 14k tax-free, pissed alot of other newly enlisted infantryman off that signed up for longer than me. (O, and I was a Korean citizen when I was signing up, got more than American citizens lol)

If I think about it, I don't think I've heard anyone signing up as infantry get that much during my time of 2000-2004.

Don't you have to be vaccinated now to be considered?

I wonder how that factors into recruitment these days...

Absolutely! Those ETN and EMN ratios are gold! With my AT (aviation electronics) rate, I was able to get an amazing job right out of the Navy. Those nuc ratings are next level.

I wouldn’t have the job I have today if it wasn’t for the training and experience provided by the US Navy.
For individuals who want technical training and money for college, it’s a great opportunity.

A lot of seamen found their true sexuality by joining the Navy. Can you really put a price on that??

I think being called semen for at least 0-3years of their career had an effect.

Usually the harder the job is (intellectually or physically) or crappier the job is the higher the bonuses are.

If you go in as a Nuc you get E-4 right after basic A school. I made E-5 with just over a year in the Navy.

In my opinion and how I saw it in the Army is...

You start at lowly private, and you grow into the e-4 with the boys, and joining and being in the e-4 mafia seems like family. Easier to bond with fellow soldiers, more off-duty activities.

Those that were fast tracked, or started as e-3 in basics, or spec at first duty station, most of them become brown nosers to get to e5 quick, they skip the e-4 mafia, have way less bonding with the men, unlikely to be invited to certain singles barracks drinking or *train/tag-team* activities, basically someone you work with, but rather not hang with.

From what I saw.

Went to Navy DS schools and all the Navy guys got E-4 right out of "A" school. As a Marine I didn't pick up E-4 until I was in my 4th year of a 5 yr contract. There was no enlistment bonus when I joined and I was surprised that when they tried to get me to re-enlist the bonus was a big fat 0.

Needless to say I got out and landed a great job in the IT sector. I was at training schools for my MOS for over a year. You'd think they'd at least attempt to retain those that went through that much training.

Is the enlistment bonus for the Marine Corps still just the “US MARINES” name tape?

As if thats a bad thing.

The best leaders I ever had were the ones that didn’t get **** faced on the weekends with us. I’ve seen those types of leaders hated because they were no longer “one of the boys” and let rank “get to their head”.

One my NCOs smoked the crap out of 3 of us in Iraq because we ****ed up during a guard rotation (over slept and were late to a shift). The 2 other soldiers could not believe he would do something like that to them. They refused to drive to the chow hall that night with him to do dinner rounds and sent me. He tried to explain what he did and I stopped him and said “I ****ed up. You do what you gotta do. I do what I gotta do. That doesn’t make us not be friends when we’re off duty”. Never spoke of that incident again. As an E3 I was in a first name basis with the guy when we’re out of uniform.

It's part of their philosophy. Avoid longtimers and keep the ranks filled with newbies and near-newbies.
