Your CCW exemption was based on what "V" considered "occupational risk". According to your own statements here.

Let me repeat again. What is it that all of you anti-AV crowd suggesting that everyone vote for in the next sheriff's election? All the proposed opponents so far appear to be BOS stooges who will set L.A. County further into the blue. I hear a lot of complaining about an imperfect sheriff (no one disagrees with this), but I don't see a single response as to what is the better solution. Are you really going to vote for one of the other candidates? What do you think will happen if AV is not re-elected? All I see are people who are bitter that we still don't have a perfect 2A sheriff candidate (welcome to the club pal) and unwilling to take what little gains we've had as a stepping stone for, hopefully, more gains in the future. You'd rather just burn everything to the ground. One of the reasons anti-gunners have been so successful in CA is because their willingness to take every little piece of ground they could get and use that for next step. We need to start doing the same on the pro-2A side.

I have about 9 friends and family who have been issued and all were issued for work related/business related risk except for 1 who was issued for recreational. He does have a job but it was not considered as he didn’t even have to provide proof of employment. His recreational good cause was something he did very frequently and was well documented. Also probably helped that he didn’t have even so much as a parking ticket on his record.

According to the GENERAL CONCENSUS on the LA-CCW forum. There was a small window early on, after "V" started issuing, where A FEW LG=recreational CCWs were issued.

Then the LASD CCW unit got a new LT, the criteria was tightened, and they NOW only issue for [BUSINESS/OCCUPATIONAL] GC.

I'm glad your friend made it through during that window. And hopefully "V" will reopen issuance to LG-GC in the future.

I know the window you were referring too but no, he got his permit just over a month ago. Well past that window.

That's when they got the "pickup" call. The approval process was long before that time. Typically 8 to 9 months ago, and some longer yet.

Again. No. The window you are talking were from applicants way before it got to that long of a wait. After news of the so called lieutenant change. He submitted his app late May. Well after the period you’re speaking of. After all the other current Light green apps they have been holding. The other light greens that were approve before was from even before I got my license when it was only taking 2-3 months

I'm pleasantly surprised, and a bit amazed, that your friend squeaked through, considering the further facts of issuance. Definitely a rare occurrence and maybe even, a possible one off.

At my rather advanced age and being a staunch conservative, having lived under the Ca DemRat anti 2-A regime for well over half a century. I'm justifiably skeptical, and often downright cynical.

I applaud "V" for issuing. Even to only a small demographic that happens to exclude myself. And some of his other "Political Stands" that I concur with. I will likely vote for his re-election, considering he is the proverbial "Lesser of Evils".

But will never claim he deserves a pedestal and halo. As some here have done. His overall anti 2A and pro illegal open borders crap, definitely remove him from Sainthood nomination.

@Pacrat
Yes and no. It also worked against me during my process/interview because when the interviewing Deputy noticed that I worked for LA county he proceeded to let me know about a County wide policy as far as no weapons allowed in or on any county workplace/facility. includes parking lots and structures depending on your department policy. which I was aware of when I applied for my CCW

Mentioning not carrying on CNTY property, sounds more like a cautionary warning for your benefit. Not a detriment to being issued.

My grandson lives in RivCo and has CCW. His interviewer told him the same thing. In relation to his employment as an Inspector for the City of LA. He told him not to carry on LA City property because if he is busted doing so. RivCo will be forced to revoke his CCW.

@Pacrat
Even in my vehicle. Policy states I can’t have it on county property period whether it be on my person or in my vehicle I had to dig deep to find out lol because I didn’t want the deputy to ask me and then I would look dumb trying to figure it out. There’s a couple guys i know who have CCWs from SB county who take their firearms into the facility.

^^^^Sounds like the Health/Hazmat division of the county fire department. The only folks who work for LACOFD who are permitted to be armed on county property are the members of the Fire Investigation Unit, aka Arson Investigators. There aren’t many, and those who are in the unit are usually towards the end of their careers.

OK, now we got the full picture, and all the known dots are connected, regarding your GC for issuance. It is obviously based solely on the bolded. In first quote.

Nothing to do with employment risk, AT ALL.

LASD, KNOWING that you can't actually drive to work "at night sometimes". Or any other time. Leaves motivation for CCW issuance assuredly, NOT DRIVE TO WORK RELATED.

Leaving only nepotistic favor to "fellow county employee" as possible GC. Lucky for you that deputies have "full discretion" for issuance.

Not being judgmental or accusatory, just realistic. And I'm BTW, still glad you got CCW.

@Lares - Did they issue with restrictions since you can't carry at work, or did they leave that up to you to comply with?

Yep, if you don't have the decoder ring, you don't get a CCW. - to all you scumbag sheriffs that limit issuance.

CA is messed up from the bottom (voters) all the way to the top (Newscum). What's moronic is the voters keep drinking the cool-aid (and refuse to relocate). They must never come out of their caves.

It's a shame - CA WAS a great state. It's a complete shthole now.

The funny thing is, we see it turning to sh1t right before our eyes.. but have you ever went away for a few years and came back? its SHOCKING... I was back east for 5 years on a job contract and never visited since my parents had already moved out of state........

I flew back in and was SHOCKED.. I thought it could not get any worse...
I wanted to goto the beach so bad... so I went to Newport Beach pier .... I was stoned cold shocked..... it was like I landed in Central America somewhere and was watching everybody in full clothes walking around and fishing for their dinner...

CA is better than it has EVER been for CCWs.

Compare 2009 to currently (will be updated with LA yellow). We passed 120,000 CCWs 2 or 3 years ago: more than ever before.

That’s not worth trying. You have to apply in county of your primary residence. You lie about that on application to sheriff that’s a criminal offense and will bar you from passing GMC in the future, even if we win NYSRPA carry case.

Exclamation Villanueva challenger on the Right…

https://rodriguezforsheriff.com/position_ccws/

Says he’ll implement a Shall Issue CCW GC policy (i.e., accept “Self Defense” or “ Personal Protection” as sufficient GC). He also describes himself as a Conservative.

I'm going to vote for him because he's Hispanic. My sole requirement, just like Biden and his VP and SCOTUS prerequisets.

It's about time LA County elects a Hispanic sheriff - long overdue.

That's my resolve and I'm sticking to it.

While I agree with you regarding not falsifying an application, we won’t know if “GMC” will even exist, or in what form, until AFTER the release of the SCOTUS opinion. I think GMC, if it survives, could become the new weapon of blanket denial. A new sheriff could run on a platform of “self defense=good cause”, and then deny whomever he chooses for GMC, and the people of that county would be stuck for some time. Hopefully that won’t happen, but if the “may issue” provision stands, it’s anyone’s guess.

Now the big question on Rodriquez is whether he stands a real chance or will he end up splitting the AV votes allowing a third (and likely gun hating leftist BOS stooge) candidate to squeak by for the win.

SCOTUS opinion would have no impact on GMC - good moral character, it would only impact GC - good cause. Besides, GMC can't really be ambiguous, since it entails objective information about one's criminal/etc records, unlike good cause which is subjective and also at the mercy of the approver

GMC is totally subjective; it has no definition, and can be applied in any manner so chosen by the IA. For example, someone may have a long-ago bankruptcy, since discharged. While it may be no fault of their own, it is a factor. Same for another individual who may have used legal prescriptions for controlled substances years prior. A brief unintended lapse in auto insurance, an unpaid parking ticket that a spouse picked up while driving your car, or an expunged misdemeanor from forty-fifty years past could all easily be used.
