Default Real ID and FSC to window shop

Went by a lgs on Springs Road this afternoon. Second try since the pandemic. Chose not to wait in line 1 year ago. Was in the neighborhood, so thought I would drop by and see what they have.
Was turned away at the door because I didn't have my FSC with me. I don't usually carry it on a daily basis. Was told by the gentleman at the door that this was a new DOJ requirement. Was not aware of such a requirement, and they certainly dont require a FSC to browse at the big box sporting goods stores.
Wasn't really looking to buy another gun, but also didn't "plan" to buy my last 3 guns from this store. Luckily, I didn't really "need" anything today. Thought I would pass this along.

Dealer blaming state regs for his personal policy. Guess it works since you admitted you were just going to waste his time since you weren't planning on buying.
Send him an email that you are looking for a new dealer due to his fud. Be sure to mention he had been your go to store but no more.

I always keep my FSC in my wallet along with my Read ID. Has resulted in the random purchase. I'd probably be better off keeping the FSC at home!

A lot of these shops lie. Usually it's to get out of doing a ppt. imbert and smithers did it to me a while ago. I finally got them to admit they lied and told them to **** themselves.

It always amazes me when someone catches a LGS (Or any other business for that matter)lying and wants to prove them wrong so they will change their policy.

F that, it they lie they can get someone else to be their customer.

i would post the store's name, not to shame them but to help out other calgunners. i personally wouldn't want to go to a shop that is like that.

Why even post the thread without posting the store's name and location???

Why even help your fellow Calgunners avoid the store?

Get with it and name who and where...that's just the way it's done here.

For those of you in the Bay Area, you probably know the lgs by the street name which I mentioned. I dont need to mention the city since there are not that many lgs-s. As to wasting their time with my window shopping, my last 3 purchases were made from this same store, pre-pandemic, when I was only window shopping. They averaged over $1,000 per gun. Before the pandemic, I touted how friendly and knowledgeable their sales staff was. They may still be, however, no one can find out if they can't enter the store.

Only been there twice. Pre-Covid. PPT purchase and pick up. Was treated pretty well. They didn't act like a PPT was a nuisance. I did buy some other stuff when I picked up the gun.

FSC? Tell them you’re shopping for gun cleaning supplies.

My FSC lapsed long ago, and I don't intend renewing until I want to purchase another firearm.

So this establishment says no FSC, no admittance to purchase ammo, cleaning supplies, and other firearm related items?

To my knowledge, no FSC is required for ammo or accessories, and certainly not to browse. Correct?

As Edgerly779; "FSC only for handguns if you have hunting license can buy long gun."

I have to admit that I was caught by surprise when asked if I had my FSC to look at firearms. I didn't think to say that I was shopping for cleaning supplies, etc. I also did not find the need to try to lie my way into the store. As mentioned in both of my earlier posts, the pre-pandemic service and knowledge was great. I'll probably go back to browse (with my FSC) one day.; just not today or tomorrow.

"This ain't NY" ...or Illinois.

I went thru there some years back and at the local Cabela's you had to show
your [illegal?] Illinois FOID [Firearm Owner's ID] card to handle any firearms.

I showed them my California CCW and they 1) wouldn't accept it as a substitute and 2) virtually claimed it was a fake since they never saw one before...

[430 ILCS 65/2 ch.38 Par.83.2] according to the posted placard covers this...
