Won a post '86 dealer sample auction for a great price over the weekend. Been looking to get one for a long time! See if you can guess what it is:

Built on a MK46 receiver, so mag functionality deleted:

Photo a bit distorted.

Uses same links/nut sacks as our Fightlite MCR, so ready to rock.

Will get a 13.9" barrel soon.

You're going to need to buy more 5.56 ammo! So when do I get to shoot it?

I used to have a bunch of those plastic assault packs. Back then it was the only way to get M855 (and tracer) rounds. I knew a guy that had a supply line. He also had an M249 so he bought assault packs by the dozen. Every once in awhile I would buy a few from him. But my storage unit was robbed and they all were stolen.

Side note: One of the thieves was later caught and some of my property returned. Those dinguses delinked it all and crushed the value. At any rate I still got a bunch of links back.

If I'm not mistaken the current barrel is 18". This is not a FN gun. Built by High Desert Dog (Elite Weapons Armory) on their receiver along with FN components.

My comment was on the bolded, as in the disabling of the magazine feed function.

Just for my own edification, I see M249 semi guns for sale everywhere that still have the magwell on the left below the feed tray. Please explain.

One of the selling points on the M249 when it was being pushed to the military was the magwell. "See, you can use the grunt's mags if you run out of belts". However, it turned out to be notoriously unreliable, and ended up being a big joke.

Give it a try and let us know if it works. I didn't really shoot an M249 in the military, or otherwise, just read about it in magazines.

On my semi auto m249s, I have a number of magazines dedicated for saw use. The bolt eats away at the feed lips from the rear with use. I typically shoot it with belts but sometimes don’t feel like linking. My guess is the actual fa m249 with magazine issue is due to the gun out running the ability of the magazine to keep up with the cyclic rate. Magazine feed in a semi 249 is no problem if you use usgi stanag mags. They just get chewed up.

I never heard about magazine complaints on the semi version, but those came much, much later.

That is exactly the opposite of what is stated in the following article:

https://gatdaily.com/effectively-fir...-fed-m249-saw/

Pmags specifically work well, at least in the open bolt FA guns. Guess I won't be able to test that with my MK46 receiver gun.

Those are pretty deliberate motions to make while under fire. If you're a SAW gunner and you're out of belts, you're under fire and pooping a brick. As for pmags, they didn't exist yet when problems with magazines was first discovered.

That’s interesting thank you.
I should have said “in my gun”. re. usgi mags. I did try a pmag in mine once and it got stuck in the magwell. I don’t believe it was the newest gen pmag though. I typically don’t use them in anything and only have a handful.
Congrats on yours! That things gonna be awesome. I recently found some 100 rd nutsacks and 200 rd boxes at a gun show and bought them for next to nothing.

NP. We have half a dozen 100 rd nutsacks along with a few 200 rd hard boxes for our Fightlite MCR upper gun. Thinking about buying a few 200 rd soft packs:

I had a couple dozen or so of 200rd 249 boxes with links from Lake City 855 that I de-linked a good 20 years or so ago. I got rid of them when we moved, no I wish I had kept them to give to you!

You could probably make a clone. I've seen those handguards for sale.

I believe those barrels had a special profile, which would be a lot harder to find.

Nice. Congratulations on your new Oculus. It’s one heavy beast but sounds wonderful. I love rimfire cans and shoot them far more often than my centerfire cans. I’m up to 3 RF cans and plan to add another one this year.

I wanted that! I couldn't find the pistol though. Is that one of the old ones?

I had to settle for a SIG P322, which is a lot bigger. However, I can use the sights and it's cut for a red dot. A Rugged is also too rich for my blood.

I might go for a really small gun and get a Beretta 21.

That looks great together, and probably sounds awesome. I just filed the e-form 4 for my free Warlock 22 the other day. I may have to find a nice 22 pistol to use it on.

It’s unfortunately not an old walther .22, but one of the newer ones. Made in Germany though by Walther. They use a two piece barrel and you need to buy a suppressor adapter from a third party to attach a 1/2 x 28 suppressor. . I went with hugh’s precision adapters as they’ve really got their act together with suppressor adapters. The oculus was 499$ plus extortion fees. Not bad considering it’s milled from a solid block of stainless steel. Tube, mount and baffles all stainless steel, and comes with a lifetime no fault unconditional warranty. You blow it up, crush it, set it on fire whatever, they’ll fix it, no questions asked. It’s also machine gun rated and 5.7mm rated. Highly recommend.

Oh, and you didn’t settle. Sig 322 is a great handgun and on my short list. Plus it comes with the suppressor adapter ready to go.
F-ing Glock I had to buy a separate $165 factory barrel for my g44 to run a can on it. Sig is gtg out of the box.

G44 with glock factory threaded barrel. 165$ upcharge because glock couldn’t include it in the base gun like Sig did.
