Default Hodge Rd. and it's mess

So, I actually have never been to this site to shoot before but used to go off-roading on the other side/stoddard wells. I have seen and read clean up efforts here and pics and I realize this place needs help. I think getting a trash bin donated or paid for by BLM or anyone else might be difficult but how about we just start by taking 2 or as many as you can, large plastic 50 to 80qt totes or bins to load up. Trash cans have loose lids and can topple over during our drives, wherever we may be going.

Too many slobs and not enough people like yourself that care. I blame the dumbing down of America.

It is basically the other side (west side) of
Stoddard valley OHV area off the 15 freeway after Barstow. My first time and just did some plinking but looks like people really haven't cared much about this place. Well, when we can get a crew of people who can commit, it should be done. The clean up looked like a great success in Riverside from the other post.

I applaud your zeal. Just for clarity. YES, west of 15 across from Stoddard Wells OHV. Which is just north of Victorville. Not AFTER Barstow, unless traveling South from Barstow.

And I'm sure BLM would "shut it down" if they could. But they can't. That's all private property.

There have been other clean ups there. But like most public shooting areas. There are more pigs than responsible adults everywhere in CrapOfornia.

The place would benefit greatly from a concerted clean up effort like this.

A friend of mine recently suggested we head up that way for some target shooting. I normally go on BLM land that's not well traveled to avoid other shooters, but if something comes together in the nearish future to clean up Hodge, I'll show up and help. I don't have a truck, but I can bring out a trash bag or two in my jeep and help fill up other bags for someone with more capacity than me.

They is a solid 2 1/2 hour drive for me... to far...

But I'm glad people are bringing up the trash issue.

I drove by last Saturday and it seemed very slow, probably has to do with the cost / lack of ammo.

I park there overnight occasionally (truck driver).
No, I don't toss bottles of urine on the ground.
It's quiet at night and only a few hours from home Bullhead City.

Thanks all of you, I will keep this updated and we will try to coordinate something before it gets too hot. Even if it's hot, we all could use a tan since this quarantine ****.

Yes that area is pretty trashed it is also a bit of a zoo depending on how many knuckleheads are out there at any given moment

I would highly suggest a weekday as the times I have gone there on the weekend have all been pretty hairy

Only a very small parcel of Hodge Road is BLM land and I mean very small right by the entrance . The rest of it is private property and since the owners of the land do not have signs stating that it is private property there is no way to enforce trespassing laws . If the BLM decides to shut down their portion of land people will just go a little bit further in like they are currently doing right now and continue to make a mess . You are fighting admirably but unfortunately lost cause .

I love how people always come here and try to guilt us about Hodge Road.

CalGunners do not dump All the trash that is dumped there.

CalGunners who do shoot there have been hauling off other people's trash for years. Bet you can't guess what demographic avoids paying dump fees by dumping their trash on every open space they can find.

Most Callgunners have never been there, But

Even people here feel free to spread the false narrative.

The problem is not just shooters. Lots of aholes dump their garbage there. South of the border types are the worst offenders.

Someone dumped a boat out there, right off the freeway. Boat with cabin i think, not a small one.

The problem with Hodge Rd is that there are lots of people who just go there to dump ****. Also lots of riders who cross over to dump **** so they don't ruin their OHV area, and then there are the shooters. Some shooters and riders clean up, some don't but a lot of the garbage just becomes a target of opportunity.

Please go check out clean-dezert.org. I have a clean up scheduled for august 20th yes a Friday night from 8pm to 11pm. We picked this time for 2 reasons.
1. its hot as hell during the day in summer out there.
2. It’s a very busy shooting location. At night is the best way to keep everyone safe as nobody will be shooting.

We will have 3-4 dumpsters, food and a small raffle.
We are a non profit and run off donations and volunteers. Every little thing helps.

Most of what you guys say is right. It’s more about education than anything. Most people out at hodge are new shooters or do not know any better. They see the trash and leave more. It’s our responsibility to help educate and teach them. Last year I met with everyone shooting in the area and none of them ever thought about shooting on a tarp to collect your shells.

Perhaps if we made up a sign that you had to drive past on your way into the hard road to educate these knuckleheads that this is not a dumping ground? Of course it would have to be in both languages

From my experience the knuckleheads will shoot the sign. I was at hodge about a month ago and someone dumped a freaking boat there.... This is why if I find a good place to shoot I tell no one.

I have thought about putting a sign up that says to pack out trash. But your right of the person next to them isn’t... they won’t... there is so much trash and shells left there.. all these shooters think it’s okay... let’s be honest most people who shoot often stay away from hodge.
