Hello Calgunners,
I hope everyone is safe and healthy. I just sent the cmp packet to the cmp in Alabama, I am beyond excited. This would be my 4 1911 and I still want more haha. Anyway I know it may take a year or more to get back. I wanted to thank memeber Skyhawk for inspiring me to it. Also this would be my first purchase with my C&R license. What should I look for in my pistol when it arrives? I will try to buy the best possible grade they offer me. |

I also sent one in. But know that your C&R license is not relevant to the CMP sales. They have to go to a 01 or 07, and are exempt from the roster by being a C&R (not by you having an 03). Skip the 10 day wait is really all you get out of it.

Check out the CMP 1911 forum for pics of what other people have received. You can see the difference between the grades. I was lucky the first go around got a number on the 5000’s and I finally received it in July 2019 about 10 months after packet was received. At that time some people were only offered field grades. I was offered all grades and took a Service. I had sent a sticky attached to the packet requesting a Colt if possible. I ended up with a nice reparked 1945 Remington Rand with Colt slide.
Once I you get your lottery number watch the CMP forum for progress through the numbers. I had a pretty good idea when I would be called based on the numbers that were posted on the forum. Some people were choosing field grade hoping it wouldn’t be refinished and have a nice war patina. Wife sent her packet in this week. We’ll see what she ends up with. Hopefully a Colt frame and a Remington slide so we can trade slides. |
