Default Best BLM close to San Jose?

I'm a new gun owner - I got two shotguns less than a month ago.
While I managed to go shoot clays every week (and hunt once ) with my O/U, I was only able to use my KSG once during tactical training.

I foresee getting quite a bit of use out of my O/U, but so far I haven't found a place close by that I can shoot my KSG - ranges I looked at so far are either closed, or won't allow it.

The only solution that I see at this point is going to a BLM, but where ? Can someone recommend somewhere close to SJ ?

Check with your local BLM office for restrictions...the Sierra Nevada foothills areas are closed off for target shooting due to high fire danger.

It depends on what you mean by "close by". Looks like BLM land is all closed to rec. shooting by fire restrictions, but it looks like national forest land is still open. Closest to bay area would be Stanislaus or Sierra. If you do that, the last ranger I talked to suggested using Avenza with a public vs private land map loaded, since national forest covers a lot of private land as well. And I also suggest you talk to a forest service office before you go and explain your plan. I got good help by doing that.

Now USFS has closed lands due to the fire danger: https://www.mymotherlode.com/news/lo...use-areas.html
