Agreed. Robert Duvall is a great actor. Another of his westerns to see is Broken Trail. Don't forget, he was in True Grit. From what I've seen, he just doesn't appear in a bad movie.

Nice! I didn't know Stoeger made lever action rifles, let alone a .45Colt. Do they still make them? Thanks.

Looks like they are Stoeger Uberti, which makes sense since they are both owned by Beretta.

Thats just beautimous wood on that 73!!

Crossfire Trail too (its a L'Amour story for Apples). When was the last time you've seen the forgotten Winchester lever that nobody talks about, the 1876?

These are great rifles. I have one only, a 30-06 #1B. It isn't going anywhere except the desert or after Elk( doubt nowadays). Fabulous rifle.

Nice #1

I have been looking for a #1 but can't find one in a caliber I want. lots of .375 or .416 even saw a .357 but I want to find a #1V in .204 or .22 ppc might have to break down and buy something and rebarrel but seems so wasteful. Ruger having limited calibers per year is kind of annoying wish they would let you order special calibers in their custom shop.

Check Whittaker guns. They may be able to help. I had trouble loading their site. Probably me. But, they're usually pretty good.

This is the Ruger No1 guru. http://www.classicsportingarms.com/r...fles-for-sale/
He has mostly the rare calibers now but can usually find anything you want. Lipsey's is the reason the No1 is still alive. They order a special run each year in different calibers. I have 2 1V a 223 that will put 5 shots under an inch at 100 yards and a stainless K1V I just picked up in 22-250.
After selling off all my Garands I decided to get one of each model a 1A-7x57 1B-300WinMag 1H-458WinMag 1RSI-30-06 1S-7mmRemMag 1V-.223 K1V- 22-250Rem They are all early red buttpads except the 1RSI.

That is great wood for a black pad gun. The newer ones have been plagued with complaints about the 2x4 looking wood.

M1NM - love your No1 and thanks!

Whoever owned it at one time put some giant muzzle brake on it and an old widefield redfield. I think the pachmyer pad may have been an add on too - I’ll have to check the serial but remember it’s a somewhat earlier .300wm 1B. Only shot it once so far :/

Golfish- I finally picked up the 57 yesterday after work (was ready on day 16) but sadly am still waiting, 13 days and counting...

Bee - dooooo eeettttt!

When I was in my pre-teens and teens, my uncle had a gold claim in Angeles National Forest near Iron Mountain that we accessed through Monte Christo campgrounds, via a locked gate and then a couple miles of steep road. It was not far from the Monte Christo Mine, which was a private inholding at that time. I am not sure of its status now. The forest service got very tough on the mineral claims and he lost it. He had a trailer/cabin and some other improvements. Lots of quail and cottontails, and a mountain lion that liked to sleep on the roof in the winter when the cabin was heated. We went there about once a month when the weather was good and did a lot of shooting.

thanks everyone! they're surprisingly low value and this one has some condition issues.. but there's a huge childhood nostalgia about them.. one of my boyhood best friends had one and it brings back some very fond memories as I hope this one will for my kids

Well it wouldn't be a proper campfire shootin' BS session without a little chili induced gassing out, would it?

My collection ain't fancy, but they're sure fun to shoot! What's the initiation ritual for entry to the MLC?

Nice collection of shooters. Think you just passed the rigorous initiation rite of MLC -- ownership and/or interest. Apples is the official recruiting officer. But he is easily bribed.
