Default Mormon Emigrant Trail open to get to Bonetti Road?

Is Mormon Emigrant Trail open? Was planning on heading out to Bonetti on Monday.

Just checked the Forest Service site: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/eldor...fsbdev7_019037

Accessibility of the various roads and trails on the forest depends on the time of year and the weather. Some road conditions can be predicted, others can not. Unpredictable events of nature can produce road hazards which may not be cleared upon your arrival. Be flexible and enjoy the journey!
Figured it would be a good idea to check here. Anybody been out there recently?

Yep went up yesterday with my son. We just went to one of the front spots. Up a little higher there was some slushy snow in the shady spots, but nothing serious.

its clear back 3 miles, a few trees you need to dodge along the way. snow starts around 4 miles back
5 miles back is a very large fir tree (about 4 feet dia) in the road. I did take some of it out and will work on more as the snow melts this coming weekend.

I would imagine so. That being said, there are many other spots on Mormon Emigrant just a little drive off the road. They may not give 100 yards, but they're usable. Sometimes I go up there and just spend a few hours exploring the random-*** roads.

Where does Bonetti even lead to? Last time I tried to go all the way, it turned into a potholed, muddy mess with massive vegetation all around.

Bonetti is 12.75 miles long
it goes from MET to North South Road at Van Horn creek

it is paved all the way but some areas are a little worn through

Been there about a month ago, it was open and packed. Left home with 2 full bags of trash. Roads feel rough and worn out, scraped a ton in my Prius

I was up there a few days ago, it was pretty empty. Although the dirtbags have been out in full force though, so much bull***** trash everywhere.

I am out there about once a week just checking on conditions and such.
Yes it is a mess right now, many of the areas are used every day of the week where it use to be just crowded on the weekends. lots of trash is building up so it is time for us to do something. got the mail below yesterday. anyone that can make it on the 8th is welcome to attend

I'd like to do a clean-up on August 8th. I'm just reaching out to the regulars and I'll put it on the Gun Club calendar. Everybody knows the drill; wear a mask if you want to, don't show up if you don't feel well. Bring work gloves and any other PPE you've used in the past. Water and sandwiches will be provided. We'll depart from the information kiosk just before Bonetti Road at 8 am. Note your starting mileage (or reset your odometer) before leaving home. Hope to see you there.

was out there yesterday with a very small group cleaning up. looks like they are finally going to close some of the areas down.

the first three areas before the Stonebreaker creek are now blocked with rocks.

I contacted the Forest Service and was told the area at Stonebreaker creek (1.25 miles in) will be block as well and no shooting will be allowed in that area any longer.

there is a load of rock that has been dumped about a 1/2 past that so I am sure they are looking to block more off as well.

Some I suspect will be just to limit the vehicles from driving of the road to far, but shooting will still be allowed, others will be to close them to shooting completely.

Oh snap. Was up there for the first time this weekend, and hadn’t realized there was two Bonetti roads. Wound up at the first one, off the Fleming trailhead and just went down the Jeep trail.

Where’s the actual one with pavement? Just take Capps Creek Road, or is there an alternative route?

there is only one Bonetti Road
200 yards past the information kiosk on MET and turn right.
paved, 12.75 miles long

Capps Crossing is not in the area (maps may show it)
it is off North South Road about 15 miles away

Fleming meadow trail is foot/bike traffic only.
most likely you were in Blue Gouge area
about a mile before Bonetti

On google/Apple maps the turnoff for the Fleming Meadow trailhead comes up as Bonetti Road; guess it’s one more misadventure with GPS. But there’s definitely a Jeep road at the trailhead, just need a vehicle with high clearance. Saw quite a few trucks and shooters back there.

The GPS is wrong, there used to be a sign on MET stating that don't use your gps because it's wrong. When you are on MET, right after the bulletin board, there should be a paved road about 200 feet on the right hand side.

Well that's good that they are going to attempt to stop trucks backing in to drop off a car door or washer dryer to shoot up and then leave it. I rarely shoot st those closer locations. Like to shoot away from everyone. Plus it is a nice drive as you go up and find a road you never been before.

the dirt road that heads east out of the parking lot is Blue Gouge. was in there on Sunday to see how we are going to get the abandoned boat out of there.

its the maps that the GPS uses that are wrong, the sign that states your GPS is wrong was put up because the road is closed in the winter and lots of people think they can get to Kirkwood because their GPS says so.

most are fine with the blocking the off roads travel, as long as they do not close an area to shooting that shouldn't be.
the area at Stonebreaker Creek needs to be closed completely. all the lead ends up in the creak bed (even if it is dry sometimes of the year) then ends up in the water supply.
that and a dozen large trees have been shot down right there in only a few years

Went to Bonetti Road yesterday. All day bang, bang fun. Played with some new toys and dialed in a new scope. Always a better option then the range. Many hidden spots with this one being one of my Fav’s.

Looks like my setup with the fence posts and steel. Sometimes pain in the butt to install in summer.

Back open as of yesterday however some areas near the fork fire near Georgetown are still closed.

Trashed as usual unfortunately.

Today.

Stanislaus Natl Forest is open for hunting but not target shooting thru Oct 15th, among other limitations.

Default Mormon Emigrant Trail open to get to Bonetti Road?

I went today. Lots of shooting from 8:30 am - 3:30pm. 3 other areas around me occupied and firing as well. No issues all day.

There are signs posted at the corner of Emigrant Trail and bonetti rd that “no camp fires” allowed. Other the sign posted, no other restrictions.

Same sign is posted at entrance except does not state #1. The same sign is posted at the entrance of bonetti rd however noting is mentioned about firearms, only the fire hazards . I wish I would have thought to take a picture of the sign.

Here are the signs they posted as you turn onto Bonnetti Rd. I think we're okay. I was up there early this morning for about an hour. Only saw two other trucks come through and I was gone before 9 am

There you go, those were the signs I was talking about. As you can see, no mention of firearm/range/shooting regulations. Thanks for the pictures friend

The shooting areas never closes. If your rig can make it, some of my best shooting is with lots of snow on the ground and quiet with other people not be able to access it.

If you are talking about the main road that goes to 88, just depends how much snow and when. Basically nothing gets plowed past the dams.

The same time it hits Tahoe and all the ski resorts. Its getting colder now so as soon as the first storm comes in. It really depends on how early the snow season starts and how heavy it is. For sure there should be snow there by December but could be earlier if we get lucky. Just watch the weather report. You'll know when it snows up there.
